Black Psychedelia – MOON DUO Reaches For The Stars On SABBATH Song ‘PLANET CARAVAN’…

13 July 2020

To celebrate the 50th anniversary of both the self-titled Black Sabbath debut LP
and second longplayer Paranoid, Sacred Bones Records released ‘What Is This That Stands Before Me?‘ last May. A compilation of Sabbath covers recorded by artists from
across their roster, with The Soft Moon, Thou, Zola Jesus, Uniform, Hilary Woods and more.

San Francisco’s psych-dream tandem MOON DUO is the ideal act to cover PLANET OF CARAVAN one of Sabbath‘s rare tranquil songs, about floating through the universe with one’s love. Moon Duo turns the ghostly original into an extended joyride. A feather-light, trippy, and imaginary journey with Sanae Yamada‘s angelic voice fitting the head-in-the-clouds mood just perfectly. Nine minutes of escaping our puzzling reality.

Enjoy here…

Psych Tandem MOON DUO Shares Airy Bossanova Track ‘ETERNAL SHORE’ From Forthcoming Album…

New sonic impulses

10 September 2019

Two years ago Portland‘s alluring psych two-piece MOON DUO released two related albums Occult Architecture Vol. 1 and Vol.2. Afterward Sanae Yamada and Ripley Johnson made music with their separate projects (respectively Vive La Void and Wooden Shjips).

The pair already announced some time ago that a new MOON DUO LP titled ‘STARS ARE THE LIGHT’ would be out 27th September. So far they already revealed two songs, the title track and Lost Heads

Now here’s another fresh cut called ‘ETERNAL SHORE’. It’s as airy as the other two shared pieces but this one is definitely my favorite one so far. It’s both poppy and jazzy and has a playful bossanova feel. Add Yamada‘s sensual vocals and your limbs will be ready to shake and tremble in sexy ways.

Two years ago the Portland psych groovers MOON DUO released two albums Occult Architecture Vol. 1 and Vol. 2  Soon after Ripley Johnson returned to Wooden Shjips for a new album called V. and Sanae Yamada made a solo album under the moniker of Vive la Void.

But the pair is back together again now for their seventh album entitled
STARS ARE THE LIGHT. It will be out on 27th September via Sacred Bones.

And here’s the title track. A delighted and exalted musing sounding as if the duo is
floating around up there in space between the stars. A twinkling and beatific trip that
puts a big smile on your face while you’re relaxing on cloud nine. Enjoy the beaming blissfulness right here…

Dance To MOON DUO’s Intergalactic Take On ALAN VEGA’s ‘Jukebox Babe’…

Energizing renditions of mesmeric classics

Portland’s swirling psych-rockers MOON DUO released two related longplayers last year with yin-and-yang albums ‘Occult Architecture Vol. 1‘ and ‘Vol. 2‘. And their productive flow
is still streaming. Shortly, the far-out pair will launch a 12″ single with their interpretation of two memorable crackers: ‘No Fun’ by The Stooges and ‘JUKEBOX BABE‘, the kooky 1980 rockabilly stroke by ALAN VEGA, the former and late frontman of experimental dance duo Suicide. Here’s the latter. An extended tribute version with an ongoing intergalactic electro beat to dance to beyond the midnight hour…

Open Your Mind For MOON DUO’s New Groovy Journey ‘SEVENS’… From OCCULT ARCHITECTURE VOL. 2

‘Sevens’ by MOON DUO

Moon1

MOON DUO will release OCCULT ARCHITECTURE VOL. 2, the second part of their two-album project on May 5 via Sacred Bones Records.  Guitarist Ripley Johnson said about the band’s special adventure: “In production we referred to Vol. 1 as the fuzz dungeon, and Vol. 2 as the crystal palace. The darkness of Vol. 1 gave birth to the light of Vol. 2. We had
to have both elements in order to complete the cycle. Listeners can ultimately use the two
volumes individually or together, depending on circumstance or the desired effect.”

The pair just shared a second track from Vol. 2. SEVENS feels like an electrifying and psychedelic fantasy build around a hypnotizing, repetitive electronic groove, intensified now and then with glowing guitar splendor, while moony harmonies add dreamy colors
to this never-ending trip. Mesmeric and catchy as hell. Join the sonic odyssey here…

MOON DUO – Another Mind-Boggling Animation Video For New Track… ‘LOST IN LIGHT’

Clips that will impress your ears and your eyes…

‘Lost in Light’ by MOON DUO

P1070931

Portland’s psychedelic explorers MOON DUO released the first of their two concept albums, titled OCCULT ARCHITECTURE VOL. 1 early last month. You can stream the fascinating journey here on Spotify. The second volume, the yin to the first LP’s yang,
will be launched on 5 May via Sacred Bones Records. All details here on Bandcamp.
The band just shared the first track LOST IN LIGHT. An atmospheric & hazy trip, again tremendously visualized by the highly talented animator (also musician) Micah Buzan.
The adventurous duo already worked with Buzan for the creepy and haunting video of COLD FEAR, the single of the first volume. This is, according to the band, actually the follow-up to that clip. Take a seat for this dazzling animated avalanche of psychedelic
fantasies and weirdness from an unknown universe. A truly eye-catching experience…
