Band: SONS
Who: Praised garage
rock unit from Belgium.

Track: DO MY THING
First single from their upcoming, 3rd LP,
called Hallo and lands on 26 September.

TUTV: Infectious riff-roaring roaster.
No breakdowns. Always frontwards. Sticky chorus.

be amused. What about yours?

Band: WETSUIT
Who: Indie hit team
from Brooklyn, NY.

Track: MIDWEST DREAM

At its core, it’s a tribute to frontwoman Allison Becker’s mother.
The song is a personal reflection, an exploration of her
changing relationship with her mom as she grows older.

Becker: “I grew up in St. Louis, where there’s a saying: ‘If you don’t like the weather, wait
5 minutes.’ As a Midwest girl, I can confirm the weather does change every 5 minutes, but the saying is why I embrace the seasons and changes in life. There’s so much you can’t control, and sometimes it’s all about finding the little pleasures and riding out the storm. That sentiment echoes throughout the song, especially in the refrain: “They say if you don’t like the weather, wait and it will go.”

TUTV: Midwest Dream is a fabulous, pepped-up pop gem for all weathers, all seasons,
all hours of the day, spiced with high-voltage guitars, Becker‘s heart-rending vocals and
an evocative chorus. Don’t wait 5 minutes to play it on repeat. Bingo.

Band: KATHMANDU
Who: Alternative four-piece band from The Netherlands, led by songwriter and lyricist Donna Marie. Their catchy dreamy songs thrive on the tension between light and dark, exploring the spaces where the two meet.

Track: DIFFERENT LIFE

Donna Marie: “I wanted to write a song that doesn’t just talk about freedom, but actually sounds like it. That expresses this urge to escape and create a fresh start for yourself. What
I wanted to convey is that it is never too late to start over. But you need to initiate it yourself.
No one else will do it for you.”

TUTV: Brisk and energetic, juiced with sensuous vocals
and a shaky chorus. A refreshing, stimulative, amplified
pop debut thrill.

Clap your hands to the beat. Right here.

Artists: TIME AND THE HUNTER
Who: The visionary musical project
of Enrico Longhin and Niklas Sundin.

Track: THE FOLLOWING SILENCE
From their upcoming debut album Weapon Pt. 1
scheduled for release on 25th April.

“It’s a deeply introspective piece. When we reached this stage of the arrangements, we immediately thought of Mikael as a guest. He had been following the project’s development behind the scenes, and his contribution to the lyrics was a perfect fit for both his voice and the song’s message.”

TUTV: The Following Silence echoes the gothic powerfulness of former Bauhaus maestro Peter Murphy’s solo work. Well, that’s what my excited ears tell me. Its polyphonic dynamic lifts the overall resonance to a melodramatic level that stirs, arouses and incites. Triumphant piece.

Band: BLACK COUNTRY, NEW ROAD
Who: English indies who keep
on climbing up the indie ladder.

Track: FOR THE OLD COUNTRY
Piece from their forthcoming 3rd album,
named Forever Howlong. Out 4th April.

TUTV: BC, NR should write an indie opera and open it with this chant.

Mean Belgian Riff Machine SONS Turned Try-Out Into A Knock-Out

10 April 2022

Band: SONS
Who: Rawk and roll turbine from Belgium
Where: 4AD club, Diksmuide, Belgium
When: 7 April 2022

SONS is one of the hottest bands in my country. Back in 2018, the 4-piece scored
big time in a radio contest, and from there on they went on a high-speed rollercoaster
with their powerhouse debut LP Family Diner as their first loud-and-clear milestone.

Their follow-up is just around the corner. SWEET BOY is out on 22 April. Order info here.

Ahead of it came lead single
NOTHING a few weeks ago.
A kamikaze ripper…

Last week I saw the group storming through one of their try-out gigs to warm up for the imminent album release show in Brussels and for their big upcoming summer festival spots.

If you never heard of this mean Belgian riff machine, let your brain work a bit and imagine Aussie psych-freaks King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard being a garage punk band on a mind-blowing noise mission. Get the very head-splitting, the very obstreperous, and the very gusty picture?

When it happens in front of your eyes and your ears your beasty instincts take over, your head starts rotating uncontrollably and you go bonkers all the way. That’s SONS for you, people. Four hungry triggermen that turn a try-out into a knock-out.

Here’s an idea of their dazzling live force…

Hammering Brighton Brothers SONS Get Angry On Brand New Raging Blast ‘SWEAT’…

Daily electricity to load your batteries

PickOfDay

25 March 2020

Band: SONS

Who: Brigthon brothers Lee and Nick Meldrum burst onto the scene in 2016. They produce explosive vocal melodies and buzzsaw riffs that could wake the dead and
catchy hooks you’ll love.

Song: SWEAT“The meaning behind ‘Sweat’ is it’s a song about falling for someone you
knew was a player and the inner turmoil you have with yourself over the time together and afterwards”

Score: My Oh My! Bloody hell yeah! This is a powerhouse belter, a boiling steamroller,
a deafening crackerjack. Ongoing volcanic drums, howling guitars and rip-roaring vocals
do your head in and crash your speakers. This cooking duo kick out the jams with badass intensity and merciless energy. This is what happens when anger and rage take over. Thrashing stroke! Blustery uppercut! Turn it up!

Play loud to keep that nasty coronavirus out of your safe home…

SHOUT OUT – Brighton’s Steamy SONS Ready To ‘RISE’ Loud And Clear…

Sonic havoc that thrills us in a way we want to scream out loud…

Another great band from the boiling streets of classic rock city Brighton, UK. Here are steamy SONS. A smoking duo producing heavy rockin’ hullabaloo. Brothers in arms trying
to beat the Guinness decibels world record. Lee and Nick Meldrum have 7 lungs in order
to achieve their goal. Massive loudness, gigantic riffage, and big booming beats are their favorite weapons. They’re totally ready to RISE and I’m 100% positive they will succeed…
