The last gang in town THE CLASH released their
iconic debut single WHITE RIOT on 18 March 1977.

With ‘White Riot‘ the late, great Strummer wanted to encourage also white people who
felt abused and oppressed by the government to come out and protest. ‘White Riot‘ only reached #38 at the time it came out but earned his classic status over the following decades.

On May 1st 1977, today 48 years ago, the band started their White Riot tour at
Civic Hall, Guildford, England with support from other legendary bands Buzzcocks ,
The Jam and The Slits.

45 years ago today, on 20 September 1979 famous rock photographer
PENNIE SMITH shot this picture of PAUL SIMONON, the legendary bass
player of punk heroes THE CLASH when they played at the New York
Palladium.

It became the iconic front cover of their double masterpiece album LONDON CALLING

John Graham Mellor, known by the world as JOE STRUMMER was born
in Ankara, Turkey (his father was a British diplomat from Anglo-Armenian
and Jewish origin, his mother was Scottish) on 21 August 1952. He would
have celebrated his 72 birthday today.

The maverick frontman of the last gang in town, The Clash
died, only 50, on 22 December 2002, following a heart attack.

A genuine singer-songwriter.
A genuine loudmouth on stage.
A genuine and caring heart.

A natural-born rock star icon loved
then, now, and forever by millions.

The first edition of iconic music weekly Rolling Stone, founded in San Franciso, was issued in November 1967. It became one of the most respected music magazines ever and still is.

Over the years RS published several ‘best of lists’, best song ever, best album ever,
best guitarist ever etc. Now they published their 100 best album covers ever. Below

THE CLASH – Joe Strummer, Mick Jones, Paul Simonon and Topper Headon – translated
their social commitment and political discontent into a loud and clear, self-titled classic debut album.

A historic LP and probably one of the most important punk albums ever. A new generation raised its voice. Loud, clear, fast, innovative and straight in the face of the narcissistic, right-wing establishment.
