Welsh Songsmith SWEET BABOO Shares Classic Kids TV Inspired Nursery Rhyme And Fantasy Clip

11 January 2023

Artist: SWEET BABOO
Who: The musical moniker of
Welsh songsmith Stephen Black.

New single/clip: THE WORRY
4th shared track of his upcoming 7th longplayer, his
first in 5 years, titled The Wreckage. Out 27th January.
Pre-order info here.

“The songs-and-storytime innocence of classic children’s television fingerpaints primary colours over ‘The Worry’. A painstakingly constructed ode to joy and a harder-than-it-looks experiment in the most direct of direct songwriting. The single’s gamboling rally against letting negative thoughts creep in is sung with abundant, crayon-drawn, crepe-paper and sticky-backed plastic heart, from parent to child, while inviting grown-ups to practice what they preach.”

Black: “This is the oldest song on the album and, although it’s kind of like a throwaway kids’ tune, it took me a long time to get the lyrics right. I wanted the lyrics to be as direct as possible. No trimmings. I think it’s me telling either myself, or my son, or both that there’s no need to worry. Like a mantra. I think that’s easier said than done. In my mind the Rainbow theme tune was inspiration.”

TUTV: This nursery rhyme feels so universal. A parent going back to its own childhood while singing an everything is gonna be fine lullaby to his kid. The Worry is frisky fun and makes sepia-colored images from the past pop-up on your mind’s TV screen. The laid-back melodiousness of the song and its musical orchestration, including jolly piano play and jaunty trombone fragments, make for a sing/whistle/hum along jingle while you can watch the fantasy inspired video clip.

‘WHERE ARE WE NOW?’ By DAVID BOWIE – R.I.P.

8 Jan 1947 – 10 Jan 2016

Had to get the train
From Potsdamer platz
You never knew that
That I could do that
Just walking the dead
Sitting in the Dschungel
On Nürnberger Strasse
A man lost in time near KaDeWe
Just walking the dead

Sitting in the Dschungel
On Nürnberger Strasse
A man lost in time
Near KaDeWe
Just walking the dead

Where are we now?
Where are we now?

The moment you know
You know, you know

20, 000 people
Cross Bösebrücke
Fingers are crossed
Just in case
Walking the dead

Where are we now?
Where are we now?

The moment you know
You know, you know

As long as there’s sun
As long as there’s sun
As long as there’s rain
As long as there’s rain
As long as there’s fire
As long as there’s fire
As long as there’s me
As long as there’s you

Dreamwave Duo LUNAR TWIN Share Notable Piece And Fan Video – Hear/Watch ‘ANDROID DREAMS’

10 December 2022

Band: LUNAR TWIN
Who: A dreamwave duo from Hawai/Salt Lake City formed in 2013 that
explore “space- and time theories, nature and culture. Their music connects
with the lyrical themes through spacey soundscapes with use of guitar reverbs,
electronics and nature sounds.”

Single/video: ANDROID DREAMS

It follows the lead single Beyond The Sun from their upcoming album Aurora,
which comes our way on 1 February 2023. Pre-order (digital album) info: here.

Android Dreams is a superb piece of synth symphonic splendor, taking you
on a titillating trip in your mind far away from our grim reality. Spellbinding.

The video was made by Frances Campbell a fan of the group with her re-filming and creating collages out of creative common and fair use footage of Robby Mueller‘s works
as an educational tribute to him. She felt like the band’s music was cinematic in nature
and would be a suitable pairing. When the duo saw the video they were very moved and agreed to let her add footage of the band performing with music to complete this tribute.

“Really random things seem to happen to us folks we have never met sending us such a cool video out of the blue wanting to collaborate with us for this tribute video. I Love the imagery
I have swept away in memories watching the collage Ms Campbell assembled“

Singer-Songwriter Project MOURNING COFFEE With 2 Twin Songs And 1 Video Clip

2 December 2022

Artist: MOURNING COFFEE
Who: Singer-songwriter from New Jersey

New songs: Gemini I and Gemini II.

Mourning Coffee: “Gemini’s archetype is known as The Twins, therefore I created ‘Gemini I’ & ‘Gemini II’. There is no container big enough for all the different selves we hold. Both songs are the same yet expressed differently, which felt fitting since Gemini governs communication and connection. Both touch on these themes heavily, as the protagonist gets lost in an exchange of words with someone new. Even before meeting them, he’s attracted to their energy. Given Gemini’s element is air, both versions express a lightness musically, and much like air picks up, both get more intense as the relationship develops. While ‘Gemini I’ keeps things more intimate like a secret, ‘Gemini II’ allows itself to be more wild and free.”

Two bittersweet related twin pearls.

London’s Colourful Feminists BUGEYE Share Striking Clip For Their New Punchy Single ‘SIGNS & EXIT’

26 November 2022

(Keira-Anee Photography)

Only last week London’s colourful feminists BUGEYE scored big time with their new punchy single SIGNS & EXIT. A song about bullying, lost innocence and the need to
feel safe and loved.

Turn Up The Volume said: “Despite the fact that energy prices are going through
the roof (fuck Putin) you don’t need to spend money on central heating if you want
to stay home when it’s too cold outside. Dress funky, paint yourself up, turn up Bugeye, pirouette yourself in a trance and let the sweat flow.”

And now the zestful ladies have a video out to visualize their fresh stunner.
The clip is directed by Laura Jean Marsh and inspired by the psychological
drama movie We Need to Talk About Kevin from 2011.

21 November 2022

Band: QUASI

Who: Indie pop/rock duo – Sam Coomes (vocals, guitar, rocksichord, various keyboards, bass) and Janet Weiss (vocals and drums / she was the longtime drummer of Sleater-Kinney) from Portland, fighting the dehumanizing machine since 1993.

New single: DOOMSCROLLERS

The 2nd piece the tandem share, following lead-single Queen Of Ears from upcoming album Breaking The Balls Of History. Out on 10 February 2023 via Sub Pop.

The album’s artwork

Quasi sing the Covic blues on this new track Doomscrollers. It’s a song about taking
solace in the simple pleasures (blackberry pie à la mode anyone?) a sing along for the disheartened. Inspired by Willy Wonka‘s psychedelic trip down the chocolate river.

TUTV: Doomscrollers is a slo-mo psych groove with 60s sonic colors and that legendary Hammond organs resonance. A sort of back-to-the-future experience with a chorus that will circle in your head for a while.

The video is wonderfully directed and conceptualized by B.A. Miale.
