PRIMAL SCREAM – Melkweg, Amsterdam (15 June) and Roma, Antwerp (16 June)
If one sees a band playing twice in two days I guess he’s a fan of that group. That’s what happened last week when I drove to Amsterdam (15 June) and the day after to Antwerp
(16 June) to witness the irresistible rock & roll power of veterans PRIMAL SCREAM (the band was formed way back in 1982) for two stellar club gigs as a warm-up for their festival summer. One of my all time favorite motherrockers. There’s still three original members
at work: charismatic frontman Bobby Gillespie, guitarist Andrew Innes and keyboard player Martin Duffy. Hammerblow drummer Darrin Mooney joined the gang in 1997 and bloody cool bassist Simone Marie Butler replaced Mani when The Stone Roses reunited in 2013. Except for 3 songs from last year’s damn fine pop album Chaosmosis The Scream know very well that the crowd wants a greatest hits set (Loaded / Rocks / Jailbird / Swastika Eyes / Country Girl / Moving On Up / Come Together). And that’s what we got (two times in my case). Rock and roll euphoria at its very best. A mix of flaming Rolling Stones vibes and spiritual gospel & soul ectasy. Something like this…
