Band: TEKE:TEKE
Who: Montreal 7-piece band fronted by vocalist Maya Kuroki, creating
a sound reminiscent of old psychedelic Japanese soundtracks while
remaining modern and punk.

Pick: MEIKYU – second single from upcoming debut album Shirushi

“Right from the start, ‘Meikyu’ was meant to be a darker song. Musically,
we wanted a fast-paced repetitive pattern that would have an hypnotic
and unnerving effect, hence the one-note guitar riff and the sort of tribal
rhythm in the first section. We also wanted to keep the actual drum beat
from coming in until later in the song (for the third verse) to build tension
and make it ever more satisfying when it finally kicks in. A sure-shot every
time we play it live!”

Score: Watch your head here comes a flaming missile. Full steam ahead,
no looking back, rushing from start to finish. Terrific guitars, booming drums, flabbergasting vocals and, yes, a romantic flute and a glowing trumpet. Totally
insane. Totally blustery. Totally brilliant. Fasten your seatbelt, it’s go-gaga time!
