TURN UP THE VOLUME Listened Back To The Year Of NELSON MANDELA’s 70th Birthday Concert – 25 Ace Tracks From 1988

Back in time…

Anti-apartheid fighter Nelson Mandela was still in prison when an impressive cast
of rock & pop artists performed on 11 June 1988 at Wembley Stadium, London,
to celebrate Mandela’s 70th birthday. The big event was broadcast to 67 countries.
In the US, right-wing TV network Fox heavily censored the political aspects of the
concert. Racist idiots!

Turn Up The Volume: Soul, funk, blues, ballads, pop, rock. Weller swims in those
pools for a very long time now (almost 30 years a solo artist). He’s an imperishable
songsmith who grows older in style and with elegance. Don’t expect experimental
stuff. He’s a soul man at heart. The 60s and 70s are his allies. That’s entertainment.

NOEL GALLAGHER – Clip For New Song ‘WE’RE ON OUR WAY NOW’

After the explosive Oasis split (2009) general Noel Gallagher
went on to form a band – High Flying Birds – to back him up
for his solo work and after 3 albums he thinks it(s already time
for a best of. That’s Noel G. for you.

The greatest hits record called Back The Way We Came: Vol 1 (2011-2021)
– an 18-track collection (double CD or triple LP) – sees the day of light in June.

The album features also two new songs. A couple of weeks ago The Chief shared
on called We’re On Our Way Now. A characteristic Noel musing that thousands
will sing along on green fields.

Artist: WARREN ZEVON (Chicago)
24 January 1947 – 7 September 2003.
He died of mesothelioma, only 56.
He released 12 studio albums.

Album: WARREN ZEVON – 2nd LP
Released: 18 May 1976 – 45 years ago

AllMusic/Mark Deming wrote: “Warren Zevon was a ten-year music industry
veteran who had written songs for the Turtles, backed up Phil Everly, done years
of session work, and been befriended by Jackson Brown… The songs here possessed
a steely intelligence, a winning wit, and an unusually sophisticated melodic sense, it
was the album that confirmed he was a major talent, and it remains a black-hearted
pop delight.” Score: 4.5/5.

Warren Zevon: “To me, the message of my songs, of all songs, is “enjoy life.”
My message as a person who evidently doesn’t have much more planned is
the same. It’s the only message I ever thought art had any business having.”

Manchester Duo LOSSLINE Still Has The Blues – Listen To Their New Lullaby ‘EMILY’

Who: A Manchester singer/songwriter tandem who loves to write
sad songs and recently collected them in an affecting lockdown blues
album called Fading Affecting Bias.

New single: EMILY – brand new single

Score: The good news for us – probably not for them – is that the pair
still have the blues and therefore wrote another affecting, sad song. One
to tap your feet along, to whistle along, or to hum along. I know they feel
trapped in a dead-end town, but feeling miserable now and then makes
you start thinking about how to get out of the dark place you’re in and do
things differently for the better, isn’t it? Well, it works for me.

One more thing. Why didn’t anybody tell me that good old Ray Davies
is back? Emily could have been a song of his. He was a Kink of moody
songs about feeling related AND connected to daily reality, and feel
good about it in the end.

Light a candle, stare at the wall
and drift away…
