Monumental Voice LEE ROGERS Gears Up For New LP With Bluesy Ballad ‘LIFE AND LIES’

Daily electricity to load your batteries

17 March 2022

Artist: LEE ROGERS

Who: Singer-songwriter from the small town of Carrickfergus in Northern Ireland.
His musical inspiration was drawn from classic voices outside of the tensions in
his homeland. Bill Withers, Marc Cohen, Tom Waits, and other great ones.

New album: GAMEBLOOD
Release: 13 May 2022

Lead single: LIFE AND LIES

Rogers: “A slightly cheeky, heartfelt ballad that everyone can relate to, about finding
love and just a little light in the darkest places. Sometimes we just need to get ourselves
to a place where we aren’t afraid to look.” Its excellent video was shot in a Belfast bar,
which he adds was “the perfect setting. The fun part is I was genuinely drunk during
the shooting, so there was little acting needed.”

Turn Up The Volume: Last November this natural-born North Irish singer from
aroused my ears with his soul-stirring 6-track EP Dark Notions, which includes
a stripped-down the bone cover of the Bee Gees‘ blockbuster hit Stayin’ Alive.

On this new mixed-emotions single his sky-reaching voice is the star again. It’s an emotional and bluesy reflection. Wurlitzer jukeboxes should be reinvented for these heartbreakers so moody minds can cry their eyes out (or cry in their beer) at night in
a downtown bar where lonely ones gather and muse about life and lies.

This one is for all barflies out there…

.”

The opener SZNZ: Spring arrives this Sunday, March 20.’

And today we get the first taster A Little Bit Of Love.

To Hell With All WAR PIGS

16 March 2022

So far nothing has changed, nothing…

Generals gathered in their masses
Just like witches at black masses
Evil minds that plot destruction
Sorcerer of death’s construction
In the fields the bodies burning

As the war machine keeps turning
Death and hatred to Mankind
Poisoning their brainwashed minds…
Oh Lord yeah!

Politicians hide themselves away
They only started the war
Why should they go out to fight?
They leave that role to the poor

Time will tell on their power minds

Making war just for fun
Treating people just like pawns in chess
Wait ’till their judgment day comes, yeah!

Now in darkness, world stops turning
Ashes where the bodies burning
No more war pigs have the power
Hand of God has struck the hour
Day of Judgment, God is calling
On their knees the war pigs crawling

Begging mercy for their sins
Satan, laughing, spreads his wings…
Oh Lord, yeah!

Post-Gothic-Punk Act BLACK DOLDRUMS Enter A Dark Sonic Place With Debut Longplayer ‘DEAD AWAKE’

The album that’s on repeat today on Turn Up The Volume’s stereo

16 March 2022

Band: BLACK DOLDRUMS
Who: Post-Gothic-punk minds out of London with
key members Sophie Landers and Kevin Gibbard.

Debut album: DEAD AWAKE

Info: The album follows two sold out vinyl EPs and several tours around the UK, EU and US. During this time, Sophie Landers (drums) and Kevin Gibbard (guitar/vocals) have cultivated a die-hard following for their wall of sound of dark shoegazing psychedelia. Their original plans for ‘Dead Awake’ was to travel to New York and record it with Jared Artaud (The Vacant Lots, Alan Vega), but due to the pandemic, they ended up doing a remote but intimate collaboration. In their words, they decided “to stop hiding behind too much reverb and an excessive amount of guitars”, and together with Jared, they reworked a more stripped down version of themselves.

Turn Up The Volume: It was the 2019 EP She Divine that attracted me
to this post-Gothic-punk act. And this notable debut LP strengthen the
attraction even more.

Why? Because they combine the haunting drive of the early Joy Division days
(Sad Paradise, Sleepless Nights and Dreamcatcher), the swirling guitar psych-o-billy
of Danish duo The Raveonettes with the lights out (Runaway and Sidewinder) and
add a couple of sonic tranquilizers to the mix (Into Blue / All For You) that put your
confused mind to rest. Black Doldrums love the midnight hours and so should you.

Inbetweenies! KEITH RICHARDS And His X-PENSIVE WINOS

What Turn Up The Volume watched/played between two coffees this morning

Between 1988 and 1993 Keith Richards wanted to do what Mick Jagger did
for years (and still does), fronting a band of his own. He called some friends
and recorded with them two studio LPs and one live one under the moniker
of X-PENSIVE WINOS

A couple of nights ago he played with his pals once more
at a benefit show at New York’s Beacon Theatre. Here’s the
three-song set.

Start it up, Keith…

Canadian Straightforward Rockers DEAD LEVEE Trigger Hope With Riff Cracker ‘NOTHING GOOD COMES EASY’

Daily electricity to load your batteries

16 March 2022

(Credit: Michael Scraper)

Band: DEAD LEVEE
Who: Old-school no-nonsense five-piece rock
band from Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada.

New EP: RISE UP, out in April 2022 and produced by
multi-JUNO Award winning producer, Garth Richardson
(Rage Against The Machine, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Big Wreck
).

New single: NOTHING GOOD COMES EASY

“Redemption song about overcoming any and all obstacles that may come
between you and your dream. The song came to us while we were driving by
the ocean on the Sunshine Coast in our 1989 Ford Econoline.”

Turn Up The Volume: Wowzer! This sickly uplifting cracker boosts your
state of mind with fired-up dynamism from the get-go. Rapid-fire rawk
and roll riffs switch on a fervent feel of euphoria. It did it in the past, it
does it in the present and it will do it in the future.

Despite all the BS we have to endure (pandemic, Ukraine, natural disasters,
and other threats) it’s never too late to get back on track and why not start
with 4 and a half minutes of heart-warming guitar-fueled boogie-woogie
that triggers hope and assurance.

Let go of any fear inside of you / Let go, just breathe and you’ll make it through

Turn up the heat…
