New York’s Mean Doomsday Machine A PLACE TO BURY STRANGERS Can ‘SEE THROUGH YOU’

15 March 2022

Band: A PLACE TO BURY STRANGERS
Who: Infamous psych-noiseniks from Brooklyn, NY
led by founder/mastermind Oliver Ackermann
Active: Since 2003 / 6 LPs (new one included)

New album: SEE THROUGH YOU
Out: 4th February via Dedstrange Records

“Outpacing even their own firmly blazed path of audio annihilation, this album repeatedly delivers the massive walls of chaos and noise that every A Place To Bury Strangers fan craves
in spades. See Through You is an explosive journey which explores the listener’s limits of mind-bending madness while simultaneously offering the catchiest batch of songs in the band’s discography. It’s a nod of the cap to the art school ethos of the band’s origins, while forging
a new and clear direction forward. Simply put, See Through You is an epic, instant classic.”

Turn Up The Volume: I love these motherfuckers. They kick bad-asses, they rage and roll, they trash and bash whether they go slo-mo, or on speed without brakes, or somewhere in the middle. What does it sound like? Remember Ozzy Osbourne telling his mates about movies that scare people and his idea of making music that scares people. That’s exactly what A Place To Bury Strangers do, and their creepy videos visualize their Doomsday vision
even more.

Ackerman’s graveyard voice leads the deafening troops backed by paranoid guitars, scorching synths and merciless drum attacks. Psych-noise-rock turned upside down. Lovely, right? You bloody betcha.

New Documentary ‘WAKE UP PUNK’ Feat. VIVIENNE WESTWOOD And Her Son Comes Out In May

15 March 2022

Vivienne Westwood (aged 80), punk-fashion artist and widow of the late New York
Dolls
and Sex Pistols manager Malcolm McLaren stars alongside her son Joe Corré in
a new documentary called WAKE UP PUNK.

The docu is directed by Nigel Askew who says:“’Wake Up Punk was ignited because
of the establishment’s misappropriation of Punk, a fightback from the heart of the
movement.”

In 2016 Joe Corré, torched an alleged five million quids worth of punk memorabilia.
Older punks were to collectively lose their shit and the media described the event
as a senseless stunt by an agent provocateur. This event was the inspiration for
a retrospect of the essence pf punk back then, but also now.

The official release is on 9th May in Glasgow.

These Times (Or Was It Shane MacGowan) Made FLOGGING MOLLY Drinking And Tripping Up The Stairs

New striking strokes

15 March 2022

Band: FLOGGING MOLLY
Who: Irish-American seven-piece Celtic
punk team formed in Los Angeles in 1997 / 6 albums so far.

New single: THESE TIMES HAVE GOT ME DRINKING/TRIPPING UP THE STAIRS

To celebrate this year’s Irish traditional Saint Patrick’s Day (17 March/
the Celtic L.A. team wrote this festive earworm that invites you to well…
drinking and tripping.

It’s understandable that these dreadful times (pandemic/Ukraine) make people reach
for the bottle, but I think the Pogues‘ heroic boozer Shane MacGowan could have been
an influential factor here too.

These times have got me drinking
As I’m tripping up the stairs
To an empty room left haunted
By a ghost who once lived there
Now I’m tripping up the stairs

Happy 70 To HOWARD DEVOTO (Buzzcocks -Magazine)

15 March 2022

Howard Andrew Trafford, better known as HOWARD DEVOTO
was born on 15 March 1952 in Scunthorpe, Lincolnshire, England.

Happy 70 to the singer-songwriter who started his musical career as
frontman of the fab Manchester pop punks Buzzcocks along the late
great Pete Shelley.

Devoto and Shelley came up with the name Buzzcocks
after reading the headline, ‘It’s the Buzz, Cock!‘, in a review
of the TV Series Rock Follies in Time Out magazine.

Devoto left in 1977 after the band released their sublime Spiral Scratch EP
and he formed the top-notch post punk band Magazine (1977-1981). They
fabricated 5 albums with their debut LP Real Life as their masterpiece.
Devoto also made one solo album (1983).

Three great Devoto moments…

– BREAKDOWN – (from Buzzcocks‘s Spiral Scratch EP)

– A SONG FROM UNDER THE FLOORBOARDS –
(from third LP ‘The Correct Use Of Soap’)

– PARADE – (from Magazine‘s debut LP ‘Real Life‘)

Boston Rockers SALEM WOLVES Break Sonic Grounds On Brand New Single

Daily electricity to load your batteries

14 March 2022

Band: SALEM WOLVES
Who: Hefty psychotronic
heathens from Boston, MA

New single: BREAKING GROUNDS

Gray Bouchard (frontman) “It’s that feeling that you’re the last person
alive in a dangerous land, and that land is inside your own head. inspired
by Peter Murphy and the societal chaos around us, as well as the unnerving
feeling that no one is getting out of this mess.

Turn Up The Volume: This jagged jackhammer goes forth and back with
turbulent velocity. Imagine the full of vim and vigor intenseness and puissant
vocality of The Afghan Whigs. Anxious, unyielding and on fire.

Breaking Grounds races like a rush of blood to the head with screaming guitars
and propelling drum muscularity. On hearing this outburst images of the inhuman
war in Ukraine came to my mind. Fuck Putin.

Psychedelic Prog Rock Pandemonium With Riff Junks GRAMPFATHER

14 March 2022

Band: GRAMPFATHER

Who: An eclectic rock band based out of Kingston NY,
whose material traverses a variety of rock genres, such
as indie, garage, punk, psych, chill, and thrash.

New album: GRAMPAPPIES
The group’s 5th longplayer

Grampfather: “Gramppappies, our fifth album, is our most realized album yet in that it encapsulates our range of sounds, wavering between abrasive rockers and indie chillers.
While our last album, Magnum Grampus, was fueled by the anger and frustration conjured
by the countless tragedies of 2020, Gramppappies offers more hope for the future, a weighted, contemplative hope that’s informed by past experiences and events, and not a naive, starry-eyed one. A main theme that’s threaded throughout the album is our appreciation of music, the role it plays in our lives, and how it keeps us going despite the many miseries we’ll endure in this life. It’s too easy to just give up and resolve that it’s all hopeless. The contrary seems like a much better and brighter path. Here’s to hoping for hope.”

Turn Up The Volume: These riff-crazy motherrockers know a thing or two and so
much more about psychedelic prog-rock’s history, from the 60s all the way to today.

At times they go mental the way Aussie gang King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard go
mental (Murder Hornets / The Myspace Continuum / Large Garbage), at times (when
they slow down) they do it the way Canadian legends Rush did it and still do it with
guitar solos packed jams (Weeding / Dead Ends), with Poppies you get a sticky pop
tune to whistle to, on Thad B. Radd they storm like hungry punks, and droning
closer The Grampening brings Black Sabbath to mind.

Get the sonic picture? Yep, this is a flaming-hot top record.
