Slave ISAAC HOLMAN Aka BABY DAVE Drops Gorilla Vibe Called ’29’
Daily electricity to load your batteries
29 March 2022
Artist: BABY DAVE
Who: The moniker for Isaac Holman’s solo trip. He’s the vocalist
and dynamite drummer of British garage rockers Slaves who
fabricated 3 high-powered albums (so far).
Holman just announced his debut solo album, titled
MONKEY BRAIN, out on 22 April. Pre-save here.
It’s “a collection of tunes written from shortly after a debilitating mental breakdown at
the start of 2019, up until now. Around half of the tunes on the record [were] co-produced by Damon Albarn who also plays various instruments throughout. I don’t know where this project would be if it wasn’t for him and I’m so grateful to have had the opportunity to work with him and observe his wizardry.”
We just got taster number two called 29 after last summer’s
first single Too Shy For Tennis, which was released last summer
with some assistance by Blur/Gorillaz mastermind Damon Albarn.
Baby Dave about 29: “There really isn’t much of a story behind this tune,
but that’s kind of the whole point. It’s about an uneventful bus journey from
Brighton to Tunbridge Wells with my mate Lucy. I had my laptop with me and
I decided to challenge myself to make a tune on the journey. This is that tune,
about that journey.”
29 is a viscous electro buzzer that sticks as first-class glue with Holman
chattering all over it. It’s pop-rap minimalism with a maximum fun effect,
it’s funky flair, it has a playful Gorrilaz vibe, and all this thanks to a boring
bus ride. In these troubled times, monkey business is always welcome.
C’mon, baby
While we’re here let’s keep on moving with the first single Too Shy For Tennis…

Big Glam Bang Gang SKID ROW Keep On Rockin’ In The Free World
28 March 2022
Band: SKID ROW
Who: Legendary glam metal rockers from Toms River, New Jersey
Active: 1986–1996, 1999–present / 5 studio LPs (including new one)
New Album: THE GANG’S ALL HERE
Out: 14th October 2022 via earMusic
“The Gang’s All Here” is an oath of triumph, exploding with powerful energy
that makes us hunger for more. It is the logical next-generation leap of the
band’s trademark sound that stomps out new ground – with singer Erik
Grönwall (formerly of H.E.A.T, one of the best frontmen of this or any
hard rock era) joining the family.
Seems like the Skid Row veterans want to keep rockin’ in their
gang world with a new singer (Erik Grönwall replacing ZP Heart),
a new album (October) and the fresh release of the title track.
They don’t look the same anymore (less hair) but still sound the same.
Huge wall-of-rowdy glam rock with the pipes of new vocalist Grönwall
dominating in the middle. Of course, there’s the obligatory guitar solo
and the chorus is one the fans will scream along out loud on Row‘s
upcoming tour
Crank it up to 11…

A Rap Rush Of Blood To The Head – JODIE LANGORD Rages On Her Brand New Uppercut ‘TV OR NOT TV’
New striking strokes
28 March 2022
Artist: JODIE LANGFORD
Who: A swirling wordsmith from
the Hull / East Yorkshire area
New single: TV OR NOT TV
JODIE: “It’s a stark contrast to the positive ’coming together’ message that I Miss It championed. I see this release as a powerful attack on the media platforms that negatively portray the youth of today while they struggle to keep things together. For me, I’ve built my craft as a spoken word artist by pointing out injustices in the world, at the hands of powerful governments and the control of the richest 1%. I’m really excited to see how this track is received after the upbeat message of I Miss It”.
Turn Up The Volume: After the piano intro (sounds like the theme tune of classic
horror-thriller Halloween) Langford rages with barbed wire temper towards the
supersonic chorus that resonates like hardcore rap.
This aggressive brainbreaker is a rushing rollercoaster, swinging forth and back
with grim impetus until the gloomy synth climax makes way for that ominous
piano fragment again. TV or not TV, that’s the question?
The answer is easy. To hell with the relentless idiocy of reality TV stars and influencers constantly putting pressure on growing minds to behave in ways unattainable to most.

Groovy Bass Funk And Sultry Saxiness – Here’s The Brand New Dancefloor LP ‘THE LEATHER LEMON’ By Brooklyn Act P.E.
On Turn Up The Volume’s stereo today
27 March 2022
Band: P.E.
Who: Funky team from Brooklyn, US
Press info: “ This sophomore album, The Leather Lemon, ushers in a new era
for the New York band. A wild ride through chewy bubblegum pop, sweeping synthetic orchestrations, and mutant club beats, the album slides ever closer to the fully-realized
pop sensibility only winked at with their debut album Person (2020) and subsequent
releases“.
Turn Up The Volume: Expect groovy bass funk, sultry sax flashes (I thought,
instantly, of saxophonist Andy Mackay from legends Roxy Music), seductive vocals
and most importantly tantalizing tunes (Blue Nude / Contradiction Of Wants / New
Kind Of Zen, and The Reason For My Love). And P.E. mix it all the right sparkling way,
with vivid verve, effervescent effect and synth waves. I’m quite sure that their fellow townsmen/women Bodega and Gustaf live around the corner.
If you want to take a break from spinning yourself dizzy then moody and jazzy pieces
like The Leather Lemon, Tears In The Rain and Majesty will calm you down. And for fans
of sound wizard Aphex Twin bizarre track 86ed will satisfy them. Lyrically, it is mostly
about relationship-related reflections and some enigma here and there. Check
these lines…
French kiss to keep the peace,
French fuck to keep the peace!
Sweet Acid in the wound, suck on it.
Leather Lemon, Strawberry Cut.
Leather Lemon, Let’s stay all day in bed!
Out of tune and muddled,
forgive the band.
Bleached bones of trouble,
lost in the grass.
I don’t want that life.
I don’t want that majesty.
I don’t want that life.
I don’t want a tragedy.
*I want EVERYTHING*
