Another PLACEBO Album – Another Masterpiece For… Devoted Fans

25 March 2022

Band: PLACEBO (London)
Active: 1994-present / 8 studio LPs

New album: NEVER LET ME GO
First since 2013 LP Loud Like Love

Release: 25 March 2022 – Pre-order info here.

NME says: “The result is Placebo’s best and most consistent album since 2006’s dark, intoxicated ‘Meds’ – and might prove their most rejuvenating since 2003’s arena-filling
‘Sleeping With Ghosts’… ‘Never Let Me Go’ is a true renaissance record. It’s no ‘Metal
Machine Music’ or ‘Yeezus’, but a record that finds Placebo inspired and ready for a
new era, reinventing the rock veterans for the modern age.”

Full review here. Score 4/5.

Turn Up The Volume: Another Placebo record, another too familiar one,
another mediocre one. But as the cliché goes: another masterpiece for all
devoted fans, until the next one. I was a devoted fan… years ago.

30 Years Ago ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT Shared 3 Years, 5 Months And 2 Days Of Their Lives

Back in time

25 March 2022

Formed in Atlanta in 1988 hip-hop team ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT had their finest moment with their debut LP 3 YEARS, 5 MONTHS AND 2 DAYS IN THE LIFE OF…
released 30 years ago, on 24 March 1992. The title refers to the time AD needed to
get a record contract. Along with De La Soul and Soul II Soul they were hip-hopping
about love, peace and spirituality in contrast to the abundance of gangasta rap at
the time.

AllMusic: “In retrospect, 3 Years… isn’t quite as revolutionary as it first seemed,
though it’s still a fine record that often crosses the line into excellence. Its positive
messages were the chief selling point for many rock critics, and it’s filled with pleas
for black unity and brotherly compassion, as well as a devotion to the struggle for
equality.”
Score: 4.5/5.

Funk-punk rock celebrities RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS have a new

After we got two amplified reveries with Poster Child and Black Summer we get a real slow one, a typical Peppers ballad, a tranquilizer called NOT THE ONE. Don’t forget to open your eyes after the song fades out…

The Original ADAM & THE ANTS Story 1977-1980

24 March 2022

Book: Blood, Sweat, Leather & Tears.
The Original Adam & The Ants story 1977-80

Publisher: Old Dog Books

Content: “Everyone’s heard of chart-topping Adam and the Ants, but long before that period, there was a more subversive, stylish, futuristic punk-infused band. Little is known about what went on in this secretive clandestine world. These days people whisper about those debauched times and are curious to know the truth. Step inside these pages to find out how four cocksure northern kids from Bradford got involved with the most exciting, but the most reviled band ever. How did they cope on the streets of London? Meet characters like Simone who worked in a fetish club. She was the one ‘Ant lady’ everyone wanted to date. Who succeeded? Then, meet the ‘Ant kids’ who Loved The Ants and no one was going to stop them from following their band period. How did all these underage kids who sometimes had to come to gigs in their school uniforms get into shows? They would often find themselves in dangerous situations where rampaging Skinheads would turn up to attack them at gigs. And finally What’s it like sharing a house with Adam, Filmmaker Julien Temple, and Adam’s girlfriend at the time, Actress Amanda Donohoe.”

Author: Johna Johnson.
A writer and well-known face and much-loved character on the UK Punk Scene back in the 70s. He followed – as a fan – and worked – professionally – with a lot of bands of that era.

Louder Than War about the book: “One of the book’s highlights is the cast of characters
it contains, from fucked up hitch-hikers to submissive sex slaves. While this makes for an entertaining read, I would hazard a guess that this is where some of the artistic license is
used that makes the book a novel. While some characters are verifiably real people, I would
bet money that others are not. Not that this matters, as it ensures the book is peopled by characters who add to the story, as all novels should. How much is an artistic license anyway?”

The Name Of This Fantastic Band is TALKING HEADS And They Released A Fantastic Double Live Album 40 Years Ago Today

Back in time

24 March 2022

Between 1978 and 1982 New York’s new wave icons TALKING HEADS released their four best albums of their triumphant career with Talking Heads: 77 (1977), More Songs About Buildings and Food (1978), Fear of Music (1979) and Remain in Light (1980).

They followed this 4 in a row top scores with a double live LP in 1982, titled THE NAME OF THIS BAND IS TALKING HEADS (David Byrne used to open concerts with this introduction line, and he also announced songs as ‘The name of this song is….’)

It captures their early live edge of 1977/1979 and their expanded ten-piece lineup
sound of 1980/1981 brilliantly. From minimum to maximum. From punky sublime
to funky sublime. Yes, a once-in-a-lifetime band!

Aussie Gang PSYCHEDELIC PORN CRUMPETS Drop Superman Slam Dunk

New striking strokes

24 March 2022

(PPC press)

Band: PSYCHEDELIC PORN CRUMPETS
Who: Pysch-rock squad from Perth, Australia
Active since 2014

New album: NIGHT GNOMES
The band’s fifth longplayer
Out: 22 April 2022
Order info: here

New single: BOB HOLIDAY
Fourth shared cut from the upcoming LP

Jack McEwan (frontman) “The title of the track has nothing to do with the actor Bob Holiday who played Superman, I just thought it was a strong name, and it clearly is. The album was getting pretty dark and I wanted to write a track that would perk everyone back up, also I really wanted to write something that sounded classic, like it had been built in the 70’s and left to rust for 50 years until the old Crumpet mob got their filthy paws on it, drenched the relic in poor recording techniques and awful song artistry while polishing the absolute Aladdin out of it hoping Hendrix was inside.

Bob Holiday is a superslam dunk. Imagine King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard
in furious glam & glitter rock overdrive. Open the gates here..

British Indie Rock Trio SINKA Hit With New Paranoid Single ‘DON’T SPEAK JUST LISTEN’

Daily electricity to load your batteries

24 March 2022

(Photo: Gary Sears)

Band: SINKA
Who: Steaming indie rock trio
from Watford, England

New single: DON’T SPEAK JUST LISTEN

After two boiling EPs, F.W.Y.K (2020) and Take Me To The Skies (2021) Sinka are back
with this new sinewy steamroller grabbing you by the throat from the opening guitar-riff craziness on. It feels like Sinka are on a kind of petrifying and paranoid run.

Hot-button emotions swing back and forth like if you’re experiencing a near-fatal
bungee jump in your worst nightmare. What a colossal powerhouse stroke, what a colossal eruption, what a colossal vocality. Ace!

Don’t stand up, don’t speak out
Don’t let reality take hold
You are not, free thinkers
You all just do as you are told

Don’t speak, just listen
Don’t speak, just listen

Just listen…
