The late great soul legend (September 23, 1930 – June 10, 2004) RAY CHARLES
scored one of his biggest hits with I CAN’T STOP LOVING YOU. It was written
by country singer-songwriter Don Gibson.

Gibson about the making of: “I sat down to write a lost love ballad. After writing several
lines to the song, I looked back and saw the line ‘I can’t stop loving you.’ I said, ‘That would
be a good title,’ so I went ahead and rewrote it in its present form.”

Over the years the song was recorded by more than 700 artists.

Charles‘ version topped the US Singles Charts 60 years ago today, on 2 June 1962.
