Probably the most pathetic royal circus in the history of the UK,
in my opinion. Charles and his entourage looked as if they had
all run away from Madame Tussaud‘s museum.

JUNEBUG is the artistic moniker of Brooklyn-based songstress Carolyn Fahrner.
Her music, as a singer-songwriter, is characterized by its light and introspective nature, making it easy to listen to. It is refreshingly honest and straightforward, yet it possesses
a soothing quality that is truly comforting.
So far she released one EP, titled Turncoat. It came out in 2021.
A new EP is canned and will be released later in the year.
Ahead of it comes its single HURT A FLY.
Junebug: “‘Hurt A Fly’ is the feeling of anticipatory anxiety, like something catastrophic might happen, and you’re just bracing yourself for the worst. At first, the song was about the sadistic wish of wanting someone to live up to the pain you believe they could cause you. However, I soon realized that living in constant fear of how others might hurt you is a damage to yourself. None of us are incapable of causing harm, we are all capable of hurting others, and even more so capable of inflicting unwanted harm upon ourselves unknowingly. The culmination of all of these various strands of thoughts lead to the creation of ‘Hurt A Fly.”
Hurt A Fly is a bluesy and somber ballad with the soul-stirring voice of Junebug shining upfront. Her vocals lift this smooth guitar-groovin’ musing to a starry-eyed dream level
far away from toxic environments. Heartrending effort.
Tune in.

Julian Casablancas, the voice/face of The Strokes
returns with his side band THE VOIDZ.
So far they recorded/released 2 albums,
Tiranny (2014) and Virtue (2018)
They have a new single out, titled PROPHECY OF THE DRAGON.
More new music and tour dates to follow.
The band about the song.
“The track started with a very simple question… what would it feel like if God whispered into your ear “you are my most magnificent creature”. What would that feeling sound like? What would its bassline be? With that, Beardo blew The Voidz conch shell, and we assembled from the various corners of the earth to which we had been summoned for previous quests. From the deserts of the Sahara, to the truck stops of the midwest – we reunited in California to answer this question. the response?
…from the fiery bones of eternity, the dragon’s voice, awakened after millennia in waiting, spewed forth a sonic fist of impertinence in the shape of a New Pirate anthem, where nothing
is what it seems, nor is it otherwise.”
TUTV: Prophecy Of The Dragon is a flabbergasting metallic stunner. It goes forth
and back, left and right, slow and fast as if Casablancas and his misfits put several
snippets of several songs together and puzzled them into one stupendous stroke
of a track. Blimey.
Listen up.

Last week Germany’s bombastic metal act RAMMSTEIN
started their 2023 tour in Vilnius, Lithuania.
At the end of the concert, all six members were at the front of the stage
to thank their devoted fans. At one point frontman Till Lindemann wanted
to leave the podium, but he fell in a deep hole behind him.
At first it looks like the other rammsteins didn’t see what happened. No details
so far about Lindemann‘s injuries, but that was a nasty fall and why on earth
was their an immense hole halfway on the stage? Truly weird.
Watch.
Lindemann went Zick Zack.

And it did break big time (but let’s not forget Bowie‘s two ace albums Low and
Beauty And The Beast released that game-changing year). Legendary British music
weekly Sounds called it the year of the single. Yes, with punk it was all about the
return of the dead-cool 7″ vinyl.
Middle-finger commotion, not only in NYC but also with safety-pins fireworks in London. This documentary (hereunder) is pretty spicy featuring a spiky-hair cast of young famous (and less famous) rebels.

German doom metal band ANTIROPE are gearing up
for the launch of their debut album, titled Amnesia,
out on 30 June via Eclipse Records.
Following the haunting lead single Beautiful Liar
comes taster number two named DEAD SUN.
Slaven Stokic: “The reference to being ‘under a dead sun’ reflects a feeling
of being trapped or stuck in a stagnant, lifeless state. It signifies a sense of
disconnect from dreams, aspirations or a higher purpose and resonates with
the underlying emotions conveyed in the song. I think the visual elements of
the video really enhance the emotional impact of the music. The video kind of
invites you to engage with the theme of the song and connect with the idea of
being trapped in a lifeless reality.”
TUTV: Dead Sun is a slo-mo doom and gloom juggernaut with a titan resonance.
It has a prompt effect on your stereo, on your ears and your mind with its menacing metallic progression, its cataclysmic rhythm section, its hallucinatory vocals and
its pitch-black imagery.
The tone is apocalyptic, the sound is apocalyptic, the soul is apocalyptic. And the
freaked-out guitar solo accentuates the ill-omened sonic picture of this cast iron
drone. It’s the end of the world as we know it, but the question is if it feels fine?

No writer’s block for English psych-pop desperados THE CORAL
The singular psych-folk-pop-rock wanderers, revel in a resurgent phase
of artistic enquiry and announce that TWO albums will be released on the
same day. SEA OF MIRRORS and HOLY JOE’S ISLAND MEDICINE SHOW
land on 8 September.
Pre-order info here.
– SEA OF MIRRORS –
– HOLY JOE’S ISLAND MEDICINE SHOW –
The first single is named WILD BIRD
James Skelly: “Like most of The Coral’s best known songs you could pick out,
it was written in about five minutes. Once the album concept was clear, this was
us imagining the theme tune for an Italian western directed by Fellini with a Richard
Yates written script. It’s us asking ourselves: what would have happened if Lee
Hazlewood had produced a Gene Pitney song written by Townes Van Zandt?”
Wild Bird is The Coral by numbers, and I like their numbers since day one.
It’s a psych-pop gem at its Coral best. Breezy, and catchy, causing
a feel-so-much-better-now sentiment.

On the cover of British magazine THE FACE in 1982
Susan Janet Ballion, best known of course as SIOUXSIE SIOUX
the voice and face of 70s punk icons The Banshees was born on
27 May 1957 in London.
Happy 66 to the Goth queen of punk. One of the most
charismatic and drop-dead gorgeous rock stars ever.
What? 66?
With The Banshees she recorded/released 11 studio albums.
With her husband Budgie, she made two LPs under the moniker
of The Creatures. And in 2007 she released her only criminally
underrated, solo longplayer Mantaray.
And she’s back on stage this year.
