Wham T.Rex Bam – CLONE Go Back To The 70s With New Glam Slam ‘QUEEN’

Daily electricity to load your batteries

17 July 2023

Band: CLONE

Who: A lush rock ’n’ roll collage outfit from Vancouver, Canada that fuses the sequined swagger of 70’s glam with the DIY gut punch of early punk and polishes it all off with the audacious vocals of contemporary pop. Familiar yet totally unique, CLONE revitalizes the glory days, reminding us what rock and roll is all about.

New single: QUEEN

Juniper Watters (lead singer): “This was my way of honoring those
daring women who fought and won in a world dominated by men.”

Watters also says she is extremely inspired by drag culture and is a huge
supporter of the drag community. She identifies as a bio queen and the
single Queen is also a celebration of her drag character, Rocket Science.

TUTV: The early 70s glam and glitter legends T.Rex, fronted by the late great and utterly charismatic rock hero Marc Bolan never vanished as they influenced several generations of musicians/artists/bands and still do today. Queen sounds like an exuberant tribute ode to them.

This wham bam slam is all about those British swinging 70s trashy riffs, groovy hooks and flashy licks. It also echoes Bowie‘s smashing 1974 hit Rebel Rebel. And I can’t but think of glam rock icon Suzy Quatro when front Amazon Juniper Watters comes on with her sensual and sultry vocals. She’s not a clone, she’s for real, she’s the perfect queen for this firecracker.

Big tune, big beats, big riffage, big visuals, big fun.

The accompanying video was directed and edited by guitarist Kelly Zombor and Watters. The clip focuses on the band performing in a featureless white environment with each member dressed in white while playing white instruments. This limited palate is juxtaposed against wildly colorful scenes of Rocket Science playing two different Queens: the Virgin Mary and the Red one.

the ebullient chorus. Vitalizing stuff to get you going all day long.

Amazing Album Artwork – TOM WAITS With His 8th LP ‘SWORDFISHTROMBONES’ 40 Years Ago (1983)

Eye-catching album artwork from the past

16 July 2023

Singular voice and songwriter TOM WAITS (now aged 73) released his
outstanding 8th LP, titled SWORDFISHTROMBONES 40 years ago, in 1983.

Back sleeve

AllMusic said: “Artistically, Swordfishtrombones marked an evolution of which Waits had not seemed capable (though there were hints of this sound on his last two Asylum albums), and in career terms it reinvented him.” Score: 5/5.

Artwork: A photograph by Michael E. Rush showing Waits with Angelo Rossitto (1908-1991) an American actor and voice artist who had dwarfism (2’11” / 89 cm) tall, and was often billed as Little Angie or Moe and Lee Kolima (1920-1995), also an actor who started his film career after being a professional wrestler in the 50s.

Kolima also appeared on Bob Dylan‘s album The Basement Tapes.

Soulful Sunday With JEREMY TUPLIN And His New Moony Reflection ‘LOVE TOWN’

Reveries for the laziest day of the week

16 July 2023

Artist: JEREMY TUPLIN
Who: An indie singer-songwriter from Somerset, England. Lyrical and
genre-bending, his music blends alt-folk, indie rock and synth pop with
the occasional psychedelic soundscape thrown in for taste.

New single: LOVE TOWN
Piece from his 4th LP Orville’s Discotheque

TUTV: Love Town is a heart-warming and reflective musing about falling in love.
A romantic candlelight ballad for mind-relaxing moments. Sweet and sensitive.

Tuplin‘s vocality made me immediately think of The National‘s melancholic crooner
Matt Berninger with its affectional resonance. Beautiful. Let’s follow him to Love Town, wherever that might be.

Tune in.

Summer Live – Full Sweaty AMYL & THE SNIFFERS Set At PRIMAVERA SOUND 2023

15 July 2023

AMYL AND THE SNIFFERS are a non-stop volcanic rawk & roll bolide from down under, led by the utterly cool and stormy frontwoman Amyl Taylor. An uproarious Melbourne-based
noise turbine generating a lethal cocktail of The Runaways (Joan Jett‘s teenage band)
and metallic fury Plasmatics (with the legendary Wendy O. Williams) fueled by an eruptive Motörhead drive. So far they released two LPs. The self-titled debut (2019) and the follow-up Comfort To Me (2021).

Last month they unleashed their demons at Primavera Sound Festival in Madrid, Spain.

Lots of clamor.
Lots of sweat.
Lots of fun.
