BLUR Already Dropped A Deluxe Edition Of New Album ‘THE BALLAD OF DARREN’ – Hear The 2 New Added Tracks

25 July 2023

Last Friday BLUR launched their 9th LP, titled The Ballad Of Darren.
Their first in 8 years (The Magic Whip came out in 2015).

A (too) chill-out, romantic and ruminative record like if Damon Albarn took
some time off his busy Gorillaz schedule, got lazy and decided to dream/write
some mellow ballads. Mind you, good songs, but too many reveries for my liking.
I expected/wanted more rippers like St. Charles Square (actually the only rocker
on the LP).

Anyway, yesterday they already dropped a deluxe edition with
two new tracks from The Ballad Of Darren sessions on it.

The upbeat cut The Rabbi and another mellow ballad named The Swan.
I don’t have a clue why these 2 songs weren’t on the original album in the
first place. Take the money and run, I suppose.

One Voice, One Guitar, One Musing, One Thrill – British Singer/Songwriter With New Ballad ‘SAFE AND SOUND’

Daily electricity to load your batteries

25 July 2023

Artist: FELIX HILL
Who: Young, up-and-coming
singer-songwriter from Bolton, UK

New single: SAFE AND SOUND

Hill: “‘It’s about a specific moment. The one where someone realises they’ve
seen their partner for the last time. It’s not been said out loud, but both of you
know that this goodbye is the one that’s forever.”

TUTV: No, Turn Up The Volume, doesn’t need noise all the time to please his ears.
One voice, one guitar, one musing, one thrill can make you silent and stop doing
what you’re doing. Something that illustrious songsmiths such as Nick Drake and
Elliott Smith did with heart and soul throughout their (too short) careers.

Felix Hill‘s has obviously the talent to make your silent and listen up close also
what he demonstrates here with this stripped to the bone humdinger of a song
about relation breakups. Safe And Sound is a romantic lullaby accompanied by
gentle electric-guitar sparks. Absorbing and moving. Making me think of the
early intimate songs of Jake Bugg.

Lyrics

Keep me company
On these long journeys
Going to and fro
All the way back home

Stay beside me
On those quiet nights
Where only cars are heard
With shining lights
The roads were bare
As I waved you off

Wishing you home
Safe and sound
Safe and sound again
Time and time
Time and time again
Until the last goodbye
Until the last goodbye

The trigger no one can see
That will only ever affect me
The look you give as you leave
Tells me you’ll be back again
Soon enough

Wishing you home
Safe and sound
Safe and sound again
Time and time
Time and time again
Until the last goodbye
Until the last goodbye

Music Movies- SERGE GAINSBOURG: (2010)

25 July 2023

That French singer/songwriter/actor SERGE GAINSBOURG was a controversial artist is the least you can say. He always said in a blunt way what was on his turbulent mind. He was a busy ladies man, even flirted openly with Whitney Houston on a TV Show (he actually said he wanted to fuck her) and wrote very explicit songs (many for other artists) like the 1969 world hit Je T’Aime Moi Non Plus sung with his then-wife Jane Birkin, who passed away
only 2 weeks ago, aged 76. He was also notorious for smoking 5 packs a day.

He passed away in 1991 following a heart attack, aged 62.

A docu-film titled GAINSBOURG (Vie Héroïque)  was
released in 2010. A fitting tribute to a unique artist.

English version poster

“A glimpse at the life of French singer Serge Gainsbourg,
from growing up in 1940s Nazi-occupied Paris through
his successful song-writing years in the 1960s to his
death in 1991 at the age of 62.”
(IMDb)

Famous French actor/musician
Eric Elmosnino played Gainsbourg.

DEPECHE MODE Frontman DAVE GAHAN Covers Legends THE GUN CLUB With Formidable ‘MOTHER OF EARTH’ Version

25 July 2023

For the past decade, a group of friends and fans of Jeffrey Lee Pierce,
the late great frontman of wayward rock band The Gun Club (1979–1996)
have recorded 3 posthumous tribute albums called
the Jeffrey Lee Pierce Sessions Project.

The fourth volume of that series is now canned The Task Has Overwhelmed Us,
and comes in September. It’ll feature contributions from big names such as
Nick Cave, Debbie Harry, Mark Lanegan, Warren Ellis, Mick Harvey, Lydia Lunch,
and more.

Depeche Mode‘s voice/face DAVE GAHAN
is also part of the star cast.

His version of country rock pearl MOTHER EARTH
from the Gun Club‘s 1982 LP Miami is formidable.

He slowed it down, and after a downhearted piano intro, the song
swells with tension and burning guitar-infused electricity and ends
with the melancholic first part.

MEET ME @ THE ALTAR – Cast Iron Pop Punk Trio Erupt On New Outburst ‘GIVE IT UP’

Daily noise that works faster than any stimulant

25 July 2023

Back in 2015 three girls, Téa Campbell, Ada Juarez and Edith Victoria (vocalist) met through YouTube, shared the same taste in music, became friends and eventually formed a band named MEET ME @ THE ALTAR, although they lived in 3 different states Florida, Georgia and New Jersey.

It took a while before the trio recorded/released music. It happened with their
first single, titled The Garden in 2020, followed a year later with their 6-track EP
Model Citizen. And last March the high-energetic girlfriends unleashed their
critically lauded debut LP PAST//PRESENT//FUTURE

A couple of days ago the news came that a deluxe edition of the longplayer will
land in September, containing 4 new songs. One of them is a belter called GIVE IT UP.

“It’s about feeling lost, confused, and indecisive about which way to go. A big takeaway from this song is that sometimes you need help figuring it out. Even though we love this song so much, we didn’t think it fit sonically with the initial tracklist of Past // Present // Future. We wanted the deluxe release to be a glimpse into another side of us, giving you a sound that’s fresh, new, and different.”

Give It Up proves once again that the band’s music genre labelled pop punk isn’t
wholly accurate. Yes they write poppy, catchy melodies, but as displayed here (again)
they produce an adrenalized metallic powerhouse sound that causes moshpits. Think
Blink-182 fronted by Miley Cyrus. Fireworks guaranteed. Say no more.

Play.
Loud.

Best Band In The World LEG LEG LEG PUPPY Go NAG NAG NAG VOLTAIRE

Daily electricity to load your batteries

24 July 2023

London‘s underground techno-punk mavericks LEG PUPPY prove again that they
are the best band in the world, although nobody knows them yet, except their noise-tortured neighbours and the noise-pollution police), with a cover of NAG NAG NAG, a CABARET VOLTAIRE classic, the groundbreaking electro/industrial avant-garde heroes from Sheffield, UK (1973–1994, 2009–2021). RIP Richard H. Kirk (1956-2021).

And they did a great job (that’s what the best band in the world need to do to stay
the best band in the world). They didn’t copy/paste the raw original version, but gave
it the by now worldwide famous Leg Puppy treatment by pumping up the synth decibels, going everywhere fast and adding psychotic Nag Nag Nag chants.

As usual, we also get a splendid video clip.

Wake up world.

Promote This! DAMNED DAMNED DAMNED (1977)

24 July 2023

Brit-punk gunslingers THE DAMNED were the first punk band to release an LP.

The album titled DAMNED DAMNED DAMNED was produced by Nick Lowe
and released by legendary indie label Stiff Records, on 18 February 1977.

Brian James (songwriter/guitarist) about the messy album cover: “That was
organised by this photographer called Peter Kodick, Stiff Records had assigned him
to do the thing. They thought it was a jolly wheeze to surprise us with a few cream
cakes, little knowing that we would relish it, get into to it and enjoy the whole
experience”.

Captain Sensible bassist: “I had more pie on my face than any of the other buggers
and on the back of the sleeve I had my back to the picture, so I went down a photo booth
and got some pictures, cut one out and said ‘put that on there’ so I would have something
to show my relatives, because I didn’t think we’d be invited to make another album.”

The still unanswered question is: did your sister like it?

2. ‘Los Angeles’ by LOL TOLHURST x BUDGIE x JACKNIFE LEE (UK/US)

Three renowned musicians came together in their beloved L.A. The former The Cure drummer Lol Tolhurst, the former Siouxsie and The Banshees drummer Budgie and Irish producer Jacknife Lee. They canned an album (out in November) and released the title track Los Angeles with LCD Soundsystem‘s mastermind/voice James Murphy on vocals,
just today.

And? It’s a stompin’ and pumpin’ dance banger.

Touchdown.

3. ‘Causing My Insanity’ by ROWDY OUTSIDER (Ireland)

These three Irish misfits will crash your speakers with this new steaming
speedball. Think Blink 182, Green Day and Sum 41 in their early insane days.

“The song is a reflection on the struggle of falling into habits that once seemed incomprehensible. The lyrics are quite self-deprecating, filled with feelings of self-doubt
and show us trying to confront our own insecurities. The song explores the feeling of being trapped in a cycle of negative thoughts, battling demons that threaten to cause insanity.”

Wowzers.

4. ‘Playful Enchantress’ by LOOSE FANG (Vancouver, CA)

Following three mind-bending singles in 2020 these Vancouver rascals return with
their 4th mind-bending slam. It has a punked-up groove that draws your hungry ears’ attention on the spot.

5. ‘History Books’ by THE GASLIGHT ANTHEM feat. BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN (New Jersey)

It’s the title track of the New Jersey’s upcoming album (out in October) and features
co-vocals by their longtime superstar friend Bruce Springsteen. It’s a glorious 24-karat anthem. Rock ‘n’ roll streams through these guys’ veins. Rock ‘n’ roll streams through their
veins.

.

6. ‘Mexico’ by THE NOLAS (Montreal, CA)

This Montreal-based indie rock 4-piece had their 6-track self-titled debut EP out in 2015.
A couple of singles followed, and this brand-new one should be your favorite summer cracker while you consume fresh margaritas.

Mexico is a mid-tempo funk-punk groover that explodes now and then with
a fiery guitar flare that has the vigor to break down moron Trump‘s racist wall.

Let’s roll.

.

7. ‘Good News’ by CITY GHOST (Salt Lake City)

City Ghost is a magnetic alt-rock band who use their music
to inspire others to be their true and authentic selves.

This new song is Salt Lake City‘s the band first single
off of their upcoming 3rd EP Cause and Effect.

It’s about “A sentiment for being fed up with mental health struggles and
just wanting to find the light at the end of the tunnel. The song ebbs and
flows through themes of struggle and relief, and crisis and hope.”

Expect a guitar-layered, emotional, mind-boggling meditation, infused with
poignant vocals, that swings forth and back, and has a heart-rending feel.

Check-in.

8. ‘Too Bright To Burn’ by LOVINA FALLS (Boston, US)

Lovina Falls is the new musical project of Valerie Forgione,
the lauded vocalist of 90s band Mistle Trush.

“I love writing, recording, and performing music, and have spent most of my life doing so. Since Mistle Thrush, I’ve been scoring for theater, independent film, and podcasts, and while it can be rewarding to work with directors and actors to set the tone or mood for a scene, much of it is solitary work. I missed being able to connect with people directly. And I really missed singing. The experience is unmatchable.”

Too Bright To Burn is a trippy, instantly sticky and bass-driven vibe with
Forgione‘s crystalline voice flowing all over it. It’s part of her notable debut
longplayer Calculating The Angle Of Our Descent.

Enjoy.

.

9. ‘Reluctant Heart’ by ARIH SK (Canada)

This new piece of the Canadian singer-songwriter is about the fear of
trying again when it comes to love. It features Amanda Lyn Parker
on backup vocals.

Reluctant Heart is a jolly-sounding mid-tempo musing with a moody touch.
The kind of zippy guitar-strumming tunes that mesmerize spontaneously.

Enjoy.

.
10. ‘Heart Full Of Tunes’ by BRAND NEW MORNINGS (UK)

Formed in 2020, Brand New Mornings mix west coast 3-part harmonies
and English 70’s folk rock results in a modern indie sound with retro charm.

Heart Full Of Tunes is a charming and sepia-colored Americana-resonating lullaby performed the English way. It’s strength is actually that it evokes universal sentiments of mind-relaxing dreaminess. So welcome in these chaotic times.

Dream here.

and Siouxsie‘s husband, and Irish music producer
Jacknife Lee

in the City of Angels and decided to give it a go together.

For more info about this new project, you can read the trio’s interview with NME right HERE.

Artwork album

The result is an album named, not surprisingly, LOS ANGELES.
And today they shared the title track as the first single.

It features LCD Soundsytem‘s mastermind/voice James Murphy and soundwise
it’s what you may expect from these very musicians. Los Angeles is an stompin’ and pumpin’ percussion blast to stomp your feet and pump your fists to like mad.
