STEREOBABE – Detroit’s Power-Pop Duo Cause A Heartening Thrill With New Single ‘BAT BABY’

22 November 2023

Band: STEREOBABE (Detroit, MI)

Who: Two like-minded musicians – Leann Banks (The Von Bondies – cool,
I saw them twice, once with The White Stripes in Brussels in 2001) and Ted
Lamont (Blasternaut) – virtually reach across the Detroit river, and started
making delicious power-pop together.

New single: BAT BABY
Their 5th one.

Lamont and Banks sing a melodic narrative to usher their metaphorically batty
characters into a curious scene, as they empower themselves to rise above life’s
challenges and avert mediocrity. “Bat Baby” subtly and playfully nudges us to embrace
all the beauty, love, and wonder that life has to offer; while keeping things fun, light
and always hopeful.”

TUTV: These tunes are, to my ears, made to forget our grim reality for a while.
Foot-stomping and hand-clapping melodiousness, jangly 12-string guitars, merry male/female vocals, 60s pop-infused backing harmonies, and a whistle-along
refrain fuse together for a heartening power-pop thrill.

Think spicy Danish indie idols The Raveonettes. And Evan Dando would definitely like
the song’s strumming drive. Like John Lennon sang once upon a time with his Liverpool
friends: “All You Need Is Love”.

Oh, Bat Baby, come on over
The stars above are full of love
Maybe we can do it all over
And fly away to a better life tonight
