Band: LEZARD
Who: Sharp-angled post-punk-disco outfit from Ghent, Belgium
Standing in a small club in front of a band you never heard of and get blown
away is always an aural thrill and puts a big smile on my music junkie face.
That magic feel hit me again last week when the Belgian collective named
LÉZARD played in my hometown of Ghent (Belgium) as part of the 4th edition
of indie showcase festival Badlands.
So what was it all about? Imagine Talking Heads reincarnated and only playing sweaty discotheques for people who love to move their feet, hips and butts when they hit town
at the midnight hours. That’s the idea of what Lézard caused with their addictive funky punky set, spiced with tantalizing tunes, boosting beats, burning down the house vibes and sparkling Freak Le Chic guitars here
and there.
Lead vocalist Neil Claes rattles as manic as the young David Byrne did on repeat, soulful
co-singer Myrthe Marnef adds a sultry party-infused timbre, while the full band plays spot-on. No brakes, no breaks, no mistakes. They didn’t stop making sense. Bingo!
So far they fabricated two songs. Two jump-up-and-down firecrackers, perfectly designed as a sonic introduction for what Lézard has to offer to your ears and all of your itchy limbs.
