Band: HELLO MARY
Who: Fierce Brooklyn post-punk trio, comprised of Helena Straight (vocals, guitar), Mikaela Oppenheimer (vocals, bass) and Stella Wave (vocals, drums), have been going from strength to strength lately, earning commendation from Rolling Stone and KEXP, playing with fellow New Yorkers DIIV, currently touring with Silversun Pickups, and late last year they supported Midwest-emo luminaries American Football, who they’ll also be supporting in their UK tour in September.
So far they fabricated 2 LPs. Debut Ginger (2020)
and last year’s follow-up Hello Mary.
New single: 0%
Info: “The song is indicative of the group’s broadened inspirations, born out of a jam session, quickly becoming a favourite to play live and then brought to life in the studio with drummer Stella Wave’s first ever recorded screaming. With “0%” Hello Mary paves
the way for an alluring, experimental future.”
TUTV: Sonic Youth is dead! Long live Hello Mary! Actually, on this new jagged jackhammer, these 3 fired-up daredevils sound even rawer, rougher and punkier than the legendary Kim Gordon/Thurston Moore led noizz crusaders.
They take you on a reckless and unbridled, forth and back, rampage. Schizoid guitars
produce a chainsaw cacophony, bone-chilling howling and primal screams send shivers down your spine, and vehement drum/bass ebullition do your head in. Controlled chaos. Helter-skelter turbulence. Mental pandemonium. Awesome, right? Absolutely, 100%.
