Daily electricity to load your batteries
18 July 2024
Artists: RED PERIL
Who: The new endeavour of the London-based Italian-Mexican musician Stefania F. Cardenas, co-founder, singer and guitarist of the now defunct all-female indie act Madonnatron (I loved them, criminally underrated) and musical partner Dexter.
New single: SPACE DOGS
Only their 2nd one, following last year’s
sensuous debut Bollywood Gangsta.
Press info: The story of ‘Space Dogs’ began as the world ushered in a new decade.
Amidst the New Year’s Eve celebrations, Cardenas channelled her creative energy into crafting tracks intended for Madonnatron‘s third album, with ‘Space Dogs’ as her first creation. It was recorded but never released.
‘Space Dogs’ was later re-recorded and produced by Cardenas, with her musical partner Dexter Krenal contributing the groovy bass line and handling co-production and mixing duties. The song encapsulates this transformative journey, inviting listeners on a cosmic voyage through the galaxy, where the only rule aboard the spaceship is to succumb to its hypnotic disco beat. ‘Space Dogs’ relies on swirling synthesisers inspired by the story of Laika, the stray dog launched into orbit aboard the Soviet satellite Sputnik.
RP: “Space Dogs is a song about trusting the wrong people. It’s a reflection on loneliness
and the extreme things people do when they are desperate for love and have nothing left to lose. Sometimes the only thing you can do is shoot for the stars. It might work out, or not.”
TUTV: Sultry, zippy and sprightly. Imagine Donna Summer teaming up with
Pet Shop Boys for a Space Bowie Oddity trip. You should add this new Red Peril
thrill to your Summer 2024 Party List. A titillating tune to move to in mysterious
ways surrounded by mysterious people in a mysterious universe. Pretending
that you’re Laika in the sky with diamonds will help.
