Artist: HIRO AMA
Who: A Japanese UK-based jazz
influenced musician.
“Jazz certainly underlies my songwriting and its influence on me is growing more and more.
I learned a lot about how to harmonise, the use of extension chords and the use of different scales outside of major and minor.”
Hiro about his upcoming debut album, titled Music For Peace And Harmony, out on October 4th: “I wrote the music in August 2023, and I remember the hot and dry weather in the UK, which reminded me of a childhood summer in Japan. The field recording in the track is from a hot summer in Galicia, Spain, where I played at a festival a few years ago. The tune not only reflects my memories of those summers but also brings together different places and times into a cohesive musical memory.”
New track: BILLOWING featuring English songstress Keeley Forsyth.
Keeley: “I worked with Hiro’s open instrumentation and imagined being in a field- as a worker-using hands and senses to bring the narrative to life. I don’t usually work with melodies that feel this good, so it was an opportunity for me to expand my pallet.”
TUTV: I just love to be surprised and impressed by non-rock music, like with this magnetic piece from multi-instrumentalist Hiro Ama‘s upcoming debut album, Music For Peace And Harmony. Seeking solace amidst today’s chaotic world, he turned to an obscure 1980s Japanese synthesiser called the Waraku – literally translated to “peace and harmony”.
Billowing is a bewitching, slowly progressing trip. Hypnotic and intriguing. Keeley Forsyth‘s voice, which makes me think of Anohni‘s heavenly one, mesmerizes all the way through.
