Artist: AMANDA KEELEY
Who: Canadian singer-songwriter who has swiftly carved a niche for herself as
a spellbinding indie-folk artist. Her music, imbued with the raw, emotional depth
of a seasoned soul, draws listeners into an intimate world of lyrical storytelling and melodic artistry. Her voice, often likened to the resonant tones of Sara Bareilles, the heartfelt authenticity of Brandi Carlile, and the haunting melancholy of City and Colour, serves as a bridge between the timeless traditions of folk and the contemporary sensibilities of modern music.
Single: BETTER DAYS
A story about the realization a relationship has come to an end.
The lyrics touch on the beauty within the contrast of what the
experience had to offer.
Keeley: “The words came to me at a time where I needed help processing the loss and letting go of a longtime relationship. I’m grateful for this song finding its way through me as it helped immensely with closure and moving forward from a place of love.
As a songwriter I interpret many life experiences through songs. In this case I found myself with certain lines floating through my mind like “thought we were more than this, let us go, let it die, all the flowers have dried and just dust in the wind”. It really felt like the perfect way to clearly communicate how I was feeling. The grief I was experiencing was pretty intense; the “flowers” felt like a representation of the need for a funeral of sorts to really grieve this loss, and once the flowers ‘dried and just dust in the wind,’ this was me coming to terms with it being over and letting go.”
TUTV: Better Days is a bittersweet folky pop gem. A heartfelt reflection on how
to come to terms with a relation break-up and feeling better afterward. Familiar
emotions to countless people on our troubled planet.
Keeley‘s warm and alluring voice carries this infectious tune all the way, with cordial
charm and emotive endearment, reminiscent of living legend Joni Mitchell‘s uplifting moments. Americana the Canadian way. Comforting and inspirational.
