Artist: SHUNKAN
Who: L.A. based singer-songwriter whose sound melds angular, emotive guitar
work with anthemic melodies, channeling the raw intensity of second-wave emo
and the vibrant hooks of early-2000s alternative rock. She has 2 albums (so far)
on her résumé. The Pink Noise (2015) and Cumberland Falls (2019).

New single: HELLBOUND

First shared piece from her upcoming, 3rd full length, named Kamikaze Girl
that pays homage to the music that first inspired Sakimoto, exploring themes
of connection, nostalgia, and transformation. With a foot in the past and an eye
on the future, Shunkan continues to explore the beauty of being caught in a
moment. More info here.

New album artwork

Shunkan: “I like ‘Hellbound’ as the first track of the album because it feels like the initial descent into a transformative period for me. There’s that space in your life where you start sensing something, or someone may not be the best for you, but the allure of it keeps you around because… what else do you have to lose? Nihilism—mixed with a lost sense of identity—is one hell of a drug. Sonically, I wanted this track to reflect what I was listening to at the time, which started with revisiting the ‘Lost in Translation’ soundtrack while I was in Japan.”

TUTV: Waves of shoegazy guitars impress your ears from the start, creating
a hallucinatory experience reminiscent of electrifying British romantics Curve and
Slowdive. Shunkan tranquilizing voice floats all over it on a cloud of introspective
emotions adding an illusionary touch. Alluring harmony. Entrancing vibe.
