Artist: UKofA
Who: The musical moniker of seasoned British musician and songwriter John MacKenzie who shared stages with rock legends such as Foo Fighters and Slash with his previous band Hawk Eyes, and has now branched into more experimental territory with this solo project, with influences ranging from Nine Inch Nails to Wu Tang Clan.
Track: WATCHTOWER
Newest single from his upcoming album,
called Mister Oblivion, on 12th December.
“The song is a challenge to our leaders, those people who’ll give anything just to get to the top of the pile. Well, now you’ve got there, and there are people relying on you, what are you going to do? It began, as these things often do, with me noodling on an instrument that I’m not that good at. In this case, it was an old family piano… After having it tuned and sweeping out the mouse droppings, it sounded pretty good!”
TUTV: Boom boom boom boom. Watchtower hits your head relentlessly like a merciless sledgehammer. Its boisterous beats bang non-stop, but there’s more to this unwearying uppercut. Frolicsome piano play goes upstream against the sonic flow, derailed guitar riffs creep in, now and then, and on top comes MacKenzie disturbed vocals.
A lot of shaking stuff is happening simultaneously. After a couple of spins, it all
makes sense, or doesn’t it? Check for yourself. Get baffled. Right. Here. And. Now.
