Warm-Blooded Señoritas HINDS Cover Punk Rebels THE CLASH – Here’s ‘SPANISH BOMBS’…

3 August 2020

Like so many other artists did during this science-fiction-like lockdown period,
Spanish power-pop señoritas HINDS also decided to cover a classic cracker. They
picked The Clash‘s 1979 track SPANISH BOMBS (featured on their masterpiece LP
London Calling) for obvious reasons, although the song’s story isn’t a happy one.

It’s about the chaotic political situation of Spain in the Seventies after the 1975
death of dictator Francisco Franco. The late great punk poet Joe Strummer got
the idea after he heard a radio news report of ETA terror bombings of tourist
hotels on the Costa Brava.

Hinds’ frontwoman said in a statement: “The Clash were my mom’s forever favorite
band. So it is always beautiful to connect generations through music. As Spaniards, we
don’t usually get shout-outs in songs, like New York or London, so the Clash writing a
song about our civil war made us feel honored.”

Awesome

20 July 2020

Following mental health problems, heartfelt songwriter and invigorating voice
CHRIS CORNELL, the driving force behind grunge stars Soundgarden and the
vox of Audioslave, the band formed by ex- Rage Against The Machine members,
took his own life three years ago.

Today would have been his 56th birthday (born in Seattle on 20 July 1964).
To celebrate this event his wife shared a cover of Guns N’ Roses massive
1989 hit PATIENCE, recorded by her late husband in 2016. An affectionate
and most gripping version of this blue ballad.

Black Psychedelia – MOON DUO Reaches For The Stars On SABBATH Song ‘PLANET CARAVAN’…

13 July 2020

To celebrate the 50th anniversary of both the self-titled Black Sabbath debut LP
and second longplayer Paranoid, Sacred Bones Records released ‘What Is This That Stands Before Me?‘ last May. A compilation of Sabbath covers recorded by artists from
across their roster, with The Soft Moon, Thou, Zola Jesus, Uniform, Hilary Woods and more.

San Francisco’s psych-dream tandem MOON DUO is the ideal act to cover PLANET OF CARAVAN one of Sabbath‘s rare tranquil songs, about floating through the universe with one’s love. Moon Duo turns the ghostly original into an extended joyride. A feather-light, trippy, and imaginary journey with Sanae Yamada‘s angelic voice fitting the head-in-the-clouds mood just perfectly. Nine minutes of escaping our puzzling reality.

Born In The USA To Run – New York City’s RICH GIRLS Doing SPRINGSTEEN

6 July 2020

After sharing new stellar single The Fighter a week ago New York City’s RICH GIRLS,
led by soul-stirring vox Luisa Black, stun with The Boss‘ breakthrough hit BORN TO RUN.

I’m pretty sure the band chose this classic cracker with a purpose as the story of this 45-year old standout – released in 1975 – is highly relevant again in today’s Divided States
Of America
. Rich Girls do not rock as much as the original, they give it a more haunting and yes, more gloomy timbre. Born in the USA to run away in 2020.

In the day we sweat it out on the streets
Of a runaway American dream
At night we ride through the mansions of glory
In suicide machines
Sprung from cages on Highway 9
Chrome wheeled, fuel injected, and steppin’ out over the line
Oh, baby this town rips the bones from your back
It’s a death trap, it’s a suicide rap
We gotta get out while we’re young
‘Cause tramps like us, baby, we were born to run

Fuck you Trump…

THE RACONTEURS Cover RICHARD HELL & THE VOIDOIDS – Here’s BLANK GENERATION

29 June 2020

Last May JACK WHITE, the hardest working bluesman on this planet, and THE RACONTEURS released a 7-track live EP titled ‘LIVE AT THE ELECTRIC LADY
in New York City and a documentary film featuring the recording of the EP and
an interview with the band.

One of the tracks is a hectic cover of 1977 punk classic BLANK GENERATION
by the infamous NYC outlaw RICHARD HELL (once a member of Tom Verlaine‘s
Television) and his band THE VOIDOIDS with a special guest appearance of
original guitarist Ivan Julian.

The Raconteurs‘ version is a scorching wall-of-sound explosion.
Not bad, not bad at all. Here’s Jack White going meshuga…

Raging And Rip-Roaring – Hardcore Supergroup DEAD CROSS Covers BLACK FLAG

15 June 2020

Hardcore supergroup DEAD CROSS (with Faith No More frontman Mike Patton and Slayer drummer Dave Lombardo with Retox’s Justin Pearson and Mike Crain) unleashed their wall-breaking cover of Black Flag’s anti-authority anthem RISE ABOVE referring to the Black Lives Matter protests after two black men were cowardly killed.

In a statement, Dead Cross says that their version “created in solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement and staunchly opposing police brutality and systemic racism.” The anger fueled steamroller opens with a powerful audio clip of a Los Angeles resident telling
the LAPD chief to “suck my dick and choke on it.”

We are tired of your abuse
Try to stop us, but it’s no use

FUCK YOU…
