RADIOHEAD – 20 Years Ago At Glastonbury With A Spine-Chilling Rendition Of ‘PLASTIC FAKE TREES’

3 December 2023

It’s already 7 years since RADIOHEAD put out an album with A Moon Shaped Pool.
And as Thom Yorke and Jonny Greenwood have lots of fun lately with The Smile (their second album, titled Wall Of Eyes comes out in January, followed by a long tour) I guess new Radiohead music is not planned whatsoever.

So back to old stuff. Like with this awesome performance of PLASTIC FAKE TREES, one
of their best compositions ever (featured on their 1995 breakthrough classic The Bends) at Glastonbury in 2003, 20 years ago.

Spine-chilling.

Classic Clips – RADIOHEAD With ‘FAKE PLASTIC TREES’ Live On MTV 1995

11 November 2023

Epic.
Stellar.
Glorious.

Her green plastic watering can
For her fake Chinese rubber plant
In the fake plastic earth

That she bought from a rubber man
In a town full of rubber plans
To get rid of itself

It wears her out
It wears her out

She lives with a broken man
A cracked polystyrene man
Who just crumbles and burns

He used to do surgery
For girls in the eighties
But gravity always wins

And it wears him out
It wears him out

She looks like the real thing
She tastes like the real thing
My fake plastic love

But I can’t help the feeling
I could blow through the ceiling
If I just turn and run

And it wears me out
It wears me out

And if I could be who you wanted
If I could be who you wanted
All the time
All the time

Classic Clips – ECHO & THE BUNNYMEN On Top Of The Pops With ‘NEVER STOP’ 40 Years Ago

28 September 2023

Long-time Liverpool champs ECHO & THE BUNNYMEN released a stunning
stand-alone single NEVER STOP 40 years ago (July 1983) and played it a couple
of weeks later on the legendary British music show Top Of The Pops.

Later it was included on the 2003 remastered version of their third LP Porcupine,
released in February of the same year, as well as a number of compilation albums.

Charismatic frontman and big mouth Ian McCulloch looks bored at the beginning, obviously hating playback TV performances (as so many artists do), so he starts playing
a bit with his shirt and then suddenly gets fired up in the end. Anyway Never Stop is one
of the countless top E&TB juggernauts by one of my all-time fav bands. It peaked at #15.

Measure by measure, drop by drop
And pound for pound, we’re taking stock
Of all the treasure still unlocked
The love you found must never stop

The king is dead
And long live the people who aim above

Classic Clips – SLADE On Dutch TV Show In 1972 With No 1 Hit ‘MAMA WEER ALL CRAZEE NOW’

9 September 2023

4 British skinheads got together in the mid-sixties to play bad loud music under
a couple of noncommercial band names. But after a couple of years they finally hit bullseye, as glam and glitter noiseniks dubbed SLADE who started to play great loud music.

They scored a ton of scream-along hits in the 70s. One of them was MAMA WEER
ALL CRAZEE NOW
. It occupied the top spot of the UK Charts 51 years ago today,
on 9 September 1972.

Those were the days that artists/bands didn’t have own video clips to promote their
singles and needed to travel around to play in music shows. Which they did regularly
in The Netherlands on the legendary, weekly show named TopPop.

And that was what Slade did too, to scream to their Mama out loud.

Classic Clips – Video For Debut Single ‘DROWNERS’ By Glam Heroes SUEDE 30 Years Ago

2 September 2023

I guess London‘s glam rock idols SUEDE
(named The London Suede in the US) don’t
need an introduction anymore.

They made a huge instant impact with their self-titled debut LP
released 30 years ago last March. And Brett Anderson and Co still
kick ass. Their 2022 LP Autofiction was a veteran triumph.

Legendary British music weekly Melody Maker named Suede the
best band in Britain
even before they had their debut single out

To celebrate the anniversary, that debut album got a deluxe treatment
and their debut single THE DROWNERS (also on the LP) was re-mastered
and shared last February.

Have a look.

Classic Clips – THE ONLY ONES With ANOTHER GIRL ANOTHER PLANET (1978)

31 August 2023

The infamous London post-punk misfits THE ONLY ONES, fronted by then
hedonist Peter Perrett (now aged 71 and still active solo) made an impressive
and productive mark between 1976-1982 with 3 LPs. Their self-titled debut (1978),
the outstanding Even Serpents Shine (1979) and Baby’s Got A Gun (1980).

Their most famous single was/is ANOTHER GIRL, ANOTHER PLANET (more than
24 million streams on Spotify), from the band’s debut album. A 24-Karat classic,
that hasn’t aged a bit. Timeless nugget.
