KRISTIN HERSH Launches New Solo Album ‘CLEAR POND ROAD’ In September – Today The First Pearly Eyes Single ‘DANDELION’

Daily electricity to load your batteries

1 June 2023

The wonderful Throwing Muses lady KRISTIN HERSH has announced the release of a new solo album, baptized CLEAR POUND ROAD. It’ll land on 8 September. Pre-order info here . She will tour the UK/IRE and AUS next Fall/Winter. All dates here.

Fire Records: “Kristin Hersh‘s new album is a cinematic road trip. A series of personal vignettes from a fiercely independent auteur, sitting plush with layers of all-consuming strings and mellotron. It’s a watershed moment in a career overflowing with creative firsts and inspirational thinking; an elegant piece of personal reportage, a home movie caught in time. It continous the juxtaposition of dark and light–dark sunshine, as Hersh puts it, that characterizes Hersh’s legendary work with Throwing Muses and 50 Foot Wave but goes even further inward as it explores the intimacy and complexity that sits alongside Hersh’s fierce independence”

Kristin Hersh: “Sweeter, sadder, and somehow no less alive. Some records demand
to be made. And you know this is the case when the songs function as systems in a body.
I octavized an acoustic baritone as the skeleton, cellos are the lungs, a Nashville-strung Collings and glockenspiel were the fingertips feeling around in this weird-ass dark space, and drums are always your heart, of course… but the vocals are a strange narrator here. A narrator lost
in the story, of all things, more like eyes.”

Along with the (great) news, we get a first taster, titled DANDELION.

Soul-stirring musing. Smooth violins, tender melody. Starry-eyed vocals.
Fragile and romantic. Marianne Faithful. Acoustic melancholia. Bright yellow
flower. Counting forwards. Pearly eyes. Not dirty. Poetic affectionateness.
Candlelight dreaming. Whispering silence in motion for shadowy moments.

KRISTIN HERSH Released Her Reflective Debut Solo Album ‘HIPS AND MAKERS’ 25 Years Ago…

Going back in sonic history looking for memorable albums…

23 January 2019

Artist: KRISTIN HERSH

Album: HIPS AND MAKERS – first solo LP

Released: 24 January 1994 – 25 years ago

ALL MUSIC wrote: “Kristin Hersh dug into her backlog of compositions for material of an intensely personal nature that she felt wouldn’t be suitable for her band on her solo debut,
‘Hips and Makers.’ In stark contrast to her work with Throwing Muses, ‘Hips and Makers’ is almost entirely acoustic. She embellishes her waifish voice and acoustic guitar with touches
of cello and piano on this album, which offers a despairing and introspective tone that fails
to submerge her considerable inner strength and fortitude. Recorded in a mere two weeks, this collection of haunting and confessional songs was produced by ex-Patti Smith Group guitarist Lenny Kaye, who has also produced Suzanne Vega. Hersh’s voice and lyrical tone, however, are considerably more brittle and coarser than Vega’s. The opening track, “Your Ghost,” features a duet with R.E.M. singer Michael Stipe.”
– Score: 4.5/5

TURN UP THE VOLUME! says: Personal, stripped to the bone reflections wrapped in delicate, forthright and human songs. Stirring voice, entrancing guitar play, intriguing musings.

KRISTIN HERSH Launches Another Groovy Punch From Her New Solo Album – Here’s ‘NO SHADE IN SHADOW’…

Daily fuel to load your sonic batteries…

30 July 2018

Supreme singer/songwriter KRISTIN HERSH will release her brand new solo album POSSIBLE DUST CLOUDS October 5. In a press statement, Hersh revealed that: “I usually play all the instruments on my solo records, essentially the sound of having no friends, but sociopaths can’t realize their potential without people to work out their grievances on and this record is a freakin’ sociopath. So I invited my friends to the party I wanted to hear. Not a live record but an alive record.”

On earlier shared new tracks Lax and Breathe In the former Throwing Muses frontwoman already showed loud and clear what she actually means with “the new album will be not a live record but an alive record.” Two turbulent crackers with a terrifically vivid impact. And third new song NO SHADE IN SHADOW has that same groovy punch, ardent grinta and vivacious spirit. A mid-tempo banger that has an immediate impact on the movements
of your head, your feet and the rhythm of your heartbeat. Capture the electrical grit right here…

KRISTIN HERSH Shares Rough Mix Of New Quaking Track ‘BREATHE IN’…

Daily fuel to load your sonic batteries…

10 June 2018

KRISTIN HERSH, singer/songwriter and ex-frontwoman of guitar pop band Throwing Muses will launch her new solo album Possible Dust Clouds on October 5. A couple of weeks ago she shared first single Lax. A turbulent cracker with a swinging swagger. And today Hersh dropped a rough mix of a second new song, titled BREATHE IN. And it’s another groovy mid-tempo rocker that sticks instantly. To be honest, I really thought on hearing the very first seconds of this new cut for the first time that it was the opening sequence of The Breeders classic single ‘Cannonball‘ with Kim Deal‘s raw, distorted vox coming on. Truly weird. But after that confusing intro, it became directly and totally clear it’s Kristin Hersch with a similar powerful panache as on ‘Lax‘. An electrical cracker performed with crude bravado. Pretty heavy, pretty cool, pretty quaking. Catch the reverberating fever right here…
