TRACK-BY-TRACK

1. ‘The Badge’ by genCAB (Philadelphia, Pennsylvania)

This eclectic industrial-electro act was founded by musician David Dutton in 2006.

genCAB (generation cable) released their debut album II Transmuter in 2008.
Second full length Thoughts Beyond The Words landed last year. And now LP #3,
titled ‘Signature Flaws’, is set for release in October on Metropolis Records.

Ahead of it comes The Badge. A Krautrock-like industrial
techno burst to start and close all (il)legal raves with.

Press play.
Bang your head.

2. ‘Crystal Closet Queen’ by PIXIES (Boston, USA)

(Photo by Turn Up The Volume)

To celebrate the late genial, eccentric, allround musician Leon Russell looking
artist, a 10-track tribute album came out last week, titled A Song For Leon.

Boston’s noise icons Pixies also feature on the LP with their steaming version
of Russell‘s 1971 classic boogie woogie cracker Crystal Closet Queen, which
Black Francis and Co turned into a classic boogie woogie punk cracker.

Dynamite.

3. ‘Psychorigid’ by IT IT ANITA (Belgium)

Belgium‘s hair-rising noiseniks unleash their 4th longplayer,
baptized MOUCHE on 13th October. Pre-order here.

Ahead of the launch IIAA dropped second single Psychorigid
as the follow-up to the nasty first one Don’t Bend (My Friend).

In just 102 seconds these maddening motherrockers succeed to make
you switch from hip-and-hopping like a kangaroo on dope over a funk-punk
disco beat, to dive head first into a maniacal hardcore moshpit.

Insane Intense Amazing Amok.

________________________________________________________________________________________________

4. ‘Cooler Than Mars’ by L7 (Los Angeles)

The infamous 90s feminist hit team L7 broke up in 2001.
They reunited in 2015, scored new LP Scatter The Rats 4 years later,
and celebrated the 30th anniversary of their smashing Bricks Are Heavy
album, last year.

And now this new single.

L7: The song was inspired by the ongoing catastrophic news of climate change
and the strange passions of billionaire space cowboys to explore and exploit the
outer limits of our stratosphere. We feel like there is nothing “out there” that is as
mind-blowing as the biodiversity of what we have here on Earth. Because we’re
cooler than Mars, damnit.

Bang Bang.

________________________________________________________________________________________________

5. ‘Dopamine’ by PASTEL BLANK (British Columbia)

Pastel Blank: “Dopamine,” is about the moment when you realize you’ve been flipping between apps like you’re checking an empty fridge for the 10th time, hoping to feed your receptors something that feels as good as the younger days of however long ago you picked up your phone. Ultimately, you just trust the algorithm like it were family and fall your way down each doom scroll rabbit hole.”

It’s the 2nd single from his new, upcoming album.

It’s a fervent funky and a dance-trippy stomper. My ears hear the beat
of Queen‘s Another One Bites The Dust, the ardency of A Certain Ratio‘s
Shack Up and a Prince guitar solo all rolled into one. I love my ears.

Check the vibe.

________________________________________________________________________________________________

6. ‘Internet’ by MOUNTAIN HEAD (Toronto, CA)

Press photo by Paul Wright

Internet stands as a reflection on the web, underscoring the irony
of boundless information devolving into disputes and trolling.

It’s a tremendously catchy bass-banging and irresistibly hip-shaking disco-rock
stunner that gets you swaying, left to right and back, from the get-go. A solid gold dancefloor filler. Hands down.

Action.

7. ‘All My Friends Are Death’ by downtalker (Boston)

The Boston post-punk disco project has two new rulling
tracks out, of which ‘All My Friends Are Death‘ hit my
ears first.

Songwriter Thompson: “The way I write is quite subconscious. So much so that I have that word tattooed on me. The music just opens me up. It’s always a healing journey and it’s always a pit in my stomach because every word I sing is my truth and I believe if you’re not feeling uncomfortable with the truth in your art you’re not doing it right. I’m trying to heal and trying
to figure out why all these moments are sticking in my head.”

Devo fan? C’mon in, here’s the place to be. Their kooky-punky-cacthy disco wackiness
is omnipresent, but there’s more at play here, folks. Jagged Gang Of Four guitar frenzy, reptitive Yello synth-booms, and mouthy-shouty vocals, will give you s-a-t-i-s-f-a-c-t-i-o-n.

.
________________________________________________________________________________________________

8. ‘Cousin’ by WILCO (US)

Wilco’s new Cate Le Bon-produced album
Cousin arrives on September 29.

While you wait for the release, have yourself some
aural Jeff Tweedy pleasure with the title track.

Go.

________________________________________________________________________________________________

9. ‘When You’re Gone’ by THE ALTER KAKERS (Toronto, CA)

The band’s name is a testament to their stature and nature – alter kaker is a Yiddish term for an old person, or as the band likes to call it, “an old fart.” That level of self-awareness helps when creating a song like “When You’re Gone.

The band’s Steve Bronstein wrote this new one years ago near the close of a relationship. But unlike the more common musical theme in breakup songs, the singer isn’t sad about the conclusion – he relishes it.

Looking for an infectious jump-for-joy post-breakup tune? Here it is.

Touchdown.

________________________________________________________________________________________________

10. ‘Inbetweening’ by THE LIGHTNING STRUCK (Canada)

The song is “about those moments that happen between what we think of as events – walking from one place to the next, waiting for something. Generally these happen when you’re alone, and it’s in these moments that self-reflection happens – when we give ourselves permission to think about what things actually mean.”

This seasoned indie combo know precisely well how to touch your heart and soul. Inbewteening is a breezy, tender and gentle lullaby for quiet dream-away moments.
Moony vocals, mellifluent backup harmonies, candlelight romanticism. Top!

Enjoy.

TRACK-BY-TRACK

1. ‘Bad Bitch Supreme’ by FIT FOR RIVALS and GRLwood (USA)

Holy smoke. This is flabbergasting cryout going forth and back,
up and down, left and right. Think Alice Glass at her most exorcistic.

Get puzzled.

________________________________________________________________________________________________

2. ‘Made Of Love’ by WINGS OF DESIRE (London, UK)

“In the wake of hyper-masculinity being promoted within the internet sphere, we invite all the tough guys out there to try and feel their emotions instead of repressing them. There is nothing cool or sexy about trying to dominate or intimidate others.”

This London‘s power pop duo fabricated a monumental belter with Made Of Love. If you’re a fan of melodramatic Los Angeles heroes The Killers you’ll become an instant fan of Wings Of Desire after just one spin of this sublime gem. I just added it to my best-tracks-of-2023 list.

3. (I Wanna Be Ur) 90s Dreamgirl’ by HANNAH MARKS (NYC)

Hannah Marks is a NYC-bassist, bandleader, composer, & educator. She’ll have her debut album Outsider, Outlier out on October 20th. Pre-order info here.

(I Wanna Be Ur) 90s Dreamgirl is the 2nd shared track from the LP. It’s an astonishing piece of multi-layered music. It’s a titanic tune with impassioned vocals and mood-swinging brilliance that scrapes the sky when the mountainous chorus erupts. Ever heard a funky cello riff and schizophrenic guitars in one and the same song? It happens here. ACE!

________________________________________________________________________________________________

4. ‘Danse Macabre’ by DURAN DURAN (UK)

These glam and glitter legends have no intention whatsoever to retire. They canned album number 16, baptized DANCE MACABRE and will share it with the world on 27 October.

Danse Macabre is the lead single

5. A Feather Of A Pigeon In The Cave Of The Wisdom Of God’ by LIGHT BY THE SEA (The Netherlands)

Another intriguing pop symphony from this intriguing Dutch duo.
The accompanying video is a classy and subtly sexy visualization.

6. ‘103’ by THE KILLS (US)

(Photo by Turn Up The Volume)T

The magnetic blues-rock duo – Alison Mosshart and Jamie Hince – sends their
6th LP, titled God Games our way on 27 October.

Here’s a killer taster.

________________________________________________________________________________________________

7. ‘Swallow My Love’ by OWLS (Ireland)

The Irish producer and synth-pop artist in his own right has this new unbridled electro stormer out. A song of love, its brutality and the corruptive nature of hearts, OWLS dives into the realms of obsession, desire and the inevitable downfall of it all. This is not for the faint hearted, this does not hold a happy ending, this will chew you up and spit you out.

Shit happens.
But it sounds mind-blowing
and looks creepy/freaky here.

1. ‘Burn Out Bright’ by DIPLOMATIC IMMUNITY (Denmark)

In two weeks – on 6 September – this Danish Herculean rock trio unleash
their debut LP ‘No Weather, No Cry, The Desert Don’t Lie’ with the world.

But first another piece off the LP.

Burn Out Bright is about “chasing your dreams is like standing on the edge of a cliff,
you got to be willing to jump, leaving everything behind. The sacrifices are part of the
game. But it’s worth it, because when you’re up there, living your dreams, nothing else
matters
.”

It’s a powerhouse of a belter.
Big emotions, big sound, big tune.

Watch/listen.

________________________________________________________________________________________________

2. ‘Holiday’ by HELMET (NYC)

NYC’s eminent metallic noise heroes are producing
deafening stuff for over 3 decades now.

On 10 November commander in chief Page Hamilton
and his crew unleash their 7th LP baptized Left .

To start the countdown they dropped the lead single Holiday.
A rambunctious scream-along and head-bang along haymaker.

________________________________________________________________________________________________

3. ‘Crawlers’ by FAMILY MAN

These punk-rooted misfits make noise since 2019. Following
their 2022 debut EP What’s New they just released their 3rd
single of 2023.

Crawlers explores the idea of a toxic relationship and the line between
symbiosis and parasitism. The earth-shattering conclusion that we are
also at fault can be just as devastating, as we see ourselves ‘becoming
a crawler too.'”

Expect a slow-boiling and haunting rap-like rant that
creeps and crawls slowly but surely under your skin.

Wowzers.

4. ‘Radio Hell’ by MIPSO (North Carolina)

Americana folk-pop-rock quartet from North-Carolina just released
their 6th LP, named Book Of Fools. Stream the full beauty here.

One of the stellar singles is Radio Hell. Only 15 seconds in and the groovy vibe intro convinces your ears that this is a winner. Totally infectious, going forth and back, and activating your feet’s movements.

________________________________________________________________________________________________

5. ‘Your Side Of Town’ by THE KILLERS (Los Angeles)

This is Los Angeles‘ pop celebrities’ brand new single.

“With much excitement we present to you Your Side of Town. It’s got the ghosts
of a lot of the synth music that inspired us over the years. And yet, somehow, feels
completely our own. Now it’s yours. Turn it up!”

And? A killer of a synth-pop earworm, of course.

________________________________________________________________________________________________

6. ‘Skipping Like A Stone’ by THE CHEMICAL BROTHERS feat. BECK (UK/US)

Manchester‘s longtime techno fanatics THE CHEMICAL BROTHERS launch
their new, 10th LP, FOR THAT BEAUTIFUL FEELING on September 8.

4 impassioned Amazons have a brand new 6-track EP out, titled Called Upon .

Bunga is a towering tour de force off the EP. A slow-burning torch
that grows in intensity and passion along its energetic path.

Somewhere between Alanis Morissette and PJ Harvey.

Wholehearted tension.

TRACK-BY-TRACK

1. ‘Listening To The Higsons’ by SPARKLEHORSE (US)

Mark Linkous, the conductor of Virginia band SPARKLEHORSE
left this world too soon. He took his own life back in 2010, at the
age of 47.

The album he was working on, named Bird Machine, at the time
of his passing, will be launched on September 8. Linkous’ brother
Matt
and sister-in-law Melissa have been working on finishing
the LP.

One of the tracks is a cover of Robyn Hitchcock‘s 1982 psych cracker
Listening To The Higsons
, recorded with his then band, The Egyptians.

2. ‘Pod’ by SNÕÕPER (US)

This 5-piece trash-and-slash pop-punk combo from Nashville, Tenessee
(punk in Nashville) hit bullseye with their recently released debut LP, titled
SUPER SNÕÕPER released through Jack White‘s label.

An unbridled punk fun record with all headbutts, except for one,
shorter in time than an average Ramones track. Gabba Gabba Hey.

Pod is a perfect example of the band’s Riot grrrl
infectious chanting. Think the B-52s on acid.

3. ‘Sabbath Town’ by FANGS OUT (Birmingham, UK)

This merciless sledgehammer is the 1st single from these
British gunsligers’ 3rd EP, named ‘The Humour In Hell‘, landing
on October 6th.

“Sabbath Town is our love letter to Birmingham and
an obvious nod to the kings of metal Black Sabbath.

‘The whole thing behind this punk rock is to stimulate noise’

The question is, will your speakers survive this brutal in-your-face projectile?
Well, to find out, press play and as OZZY proposed to his BS bandmates before
they started out: “there are movies made to scare people, let us
make music that scare people”
you know what to expect below.

Get paranoid.

4. ‘Trace Amounts’ by DREAD RISKS (Austin, Texas)

Think Sisters of Mercy and Depeche Mode having a wall-of-synth-rock-sound
competition. Trace Amounts has both a vicious and sickly sticky flow accentuated
by its titanic resonance and agitated vocals. Perfect to start and end (il)legal
raves with.

Feel the heat.

5. ‘Blame’ by MASSEDUCTION (Italy)

Giordano Giacchetti (lead singer) says that the lyrics are a cathartic expression of anger and disappointment, emotions that everyone experiences at some point in life. The track serves as a reminder that sometimes, we need to let go of the pain and disappointment we feel toward others or even ourselves.

This Italian hit team nail it with this big riff-insane
rock banger that explodes on the Herculean chorus.

Think Afghan Whigs at their red-hot-blooded best.

6. ‘POV / Are You Watching Me?’ by TRIPLE A (Belgium)

📸 by Robin Gevaert

Sharp-cutting post-punk turbulence from Belgium. A jittery jackhammer

a what-the-fuck chorus.

A sassy motherrocker.

Tune in.

7. ‘Good Man’ by THE 925 (Belgium)

Good Man is a peppery piece from their 2nd EP coming up in 2024.

I guess you know that band named Bruce Springsteen and The E-Street Band, right?
If not, you never ever left your cave and, it’s about time to discover their rock ‘n’ rolling, glowing-organ and Americana-bliss-infused ardency as echoed here in this ridiculously catchy earworm.

And so much better than THE1975, although respect for what they did in Malaysia.
Now, here’s an idea, maybe THE 925 should fly to Malaysia and kick some homophobic
ass over there.

Let’s roll.

8. ‘Should I Kill Myself? by OLUJA (Canada)

Oluja is a versatile electronic artist from Ontario, Canada. He describes his sound
as adventurous, lyrical, detailed, intense and progressive. He mashes up different
styles in his current works, including Black Metal, Folk, Electronic and Experimental.

This new extended piece puzzles me. Should I Kill Myself? is a scary thought, of course,
but you don’t expect that mindfucking pondering as a song title, yet we know that more people than we think are tormented by this very question.

But (there’s always a but) the cynical, dry humor lyrics and contagious poppy melodiousness makes you feel… alive, until halfway that is when the pace slows
down and the tone gets sinister and resonates like a mourning religious prayer.

Very intriguing stuff.

9. ‘Fire Of Mercy’ by HOT CHIP

Lyrically, this is not a happy song. It relates to the central concept of
William Blake’s Songs Of Experience – it bemoans the corruption that
inevitably comes from adulthood and longs for a return to the purity
of childhood.”

Sonically, it’s a bittersweet symphony that enchants.

Summer fireworks.

.
________________________________________________________________________________________________

9. ‘Coward’ by MARISSA BURWELL (Canada)

“This song began being written mid tearful phone conversation when I realized that I wasn’t being honest with myself. At the time it was just a statement written down but resulted in deep reflection, looking at where my desire to play something safe originated, where it came from to not trust what my body and mind were telling me.”

A smooth, electrifying groove, gripping vocals, and introspective lyrics.

Top!

10. ‘Accepted’ by MADAM SAD (Canada)

Artwork by Maddison Schreiber

Maddison Schreiber, aka Madam Sad is disabled person on ODSP. She had violent acts committed against her regularly. Things such as going without food, being threatened
with homelessness, watching rent rise as my income stays stagnant.

“This song specifically pulls from the idea that there’s a large group of people that are either apathetic or encouraging of extorting others. I feel like this is violent by nature, so to become violent within this system you then become accepted by that system”.

This stirring reverie will touch your heart and soul.

just today.

And? It’s a stompin’ and pumpin’ dance banger.

Touchdown.

________________________________________________________________________________________________

3. ‘Causing My Insanity’ by ROWDY OUTSIDER (Ireland)

These three Irish misfits will crash your speakers with this new steaming
speedball. Think Blink 182, Green Day and Sum 41 in their early insane days.

“The song is a reflection on the struggle of falling into habits that once seemed incomprehensible. The lyrics are quite self-deprecating, filled with feelings of self-doubt
and show us trying to confront our own insecurities. The song explores the feeling of being trapped in a cycle of negative thoughts, battling demons that threaten to cause insanity.”

Wowzers.

5. ‘History Books’ by THE GASLIGHT ANTHEM feat. BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN (New Jersey)

It’s the title track of the New Jersey’s upcoming album (out in October) and features

veins.

.
________________________________________________________________________________________________

6. ‘Mexico’ by THE NOLAS (Montreal, CA)

This Montreal-based indie rock 4-piece had their 6-track self-titled debut EP out in 2015.
A couple of singles followed, and this brand-new one should be your favorite summer cracker while you consume fresh margaritas.

Mexico is a mid-tempo funk-punk groover that explodes now and then with
a fiery guitar flare that has the vigor to break down moron Trump‘s racist wall.

Let’s roll.

7. ‘Good News’ by CITY GHOST (Salt Lake City)

This new song is Salt Lake City‘s the band first single
off of their upcoming 3rd EP Cause and Effect.

It’s about “A sentiment for being fed up with mental health struggles and
just wanting to find the light at the end of the tunnel. The song ebbs and
flows through themes of struggle and relief, and crisis and hope.”

Expect a guitar-layered, emotional, mind-boggling meditation, infused with
poignant vocals, that swings forth and back, and has a heart-rending feel.

Check-in.

8. ‘Too Bright To Burn’ by LOVINA FALLS (Boston, US)

Lovina Falls is the new musical project of Valerie Forgione,
the lauded vocalist of 90s band Mistle Trush.

“I love writing, recording, and performing music, and have spent most of my life doing so. Since Mistle Thrush, I’ve been scoring for theater, independent film, and podcasts, and while it can be rewarding to work with directors and actors to set the tone or mood for a scene, much of it is solitary work. I missed being able to connect with people directly. And I really missed singing. The experience is unmatchable.”

Too Bright To Burn is a trippy, instantly sticky and bass-driven vibe with
Forgione‘s crystalline voice flowing all over it. It’s part of her notable debut
longplayer Calculating The Angle Of Our Descent.

Enjoy.

.
________________________________________________________________________________________________

9. ‘Reluctant Heart’ by ARIH SK (Canada)

This new piece of the Canadian singer-songwriter is about the fear of
trying again when it comes to love. It features Amanda Lyn Parker
on backup vocals.

Reluctant Heart is a jolly-sounding mid-tempo musing with a moody touch.
The kind of zippy guitar-strumming tunes that mesmerize spontaneously.

Enjoy.

.
10. ‘Heart Full Of Tunes’ by BRAND NEW MORNINGS (UK)

Formed in 2020, Brand New Mornings mix west coast 3-part harmonies
and English 70’s folk rock results in a modern indie sound with retro charm.

Heart Full Of Tunes is a charming and sepia-colored Americana-resonating lullaby performed the English way. It’s strength is actually that it evokes universal sentiments of mind-relaxing dreaminess. So welcome in these chaotic times.

Dream here.

Sassy stroke.

.
2. ‘The Trench Coat Museum’ by YARD ACT

Following last year’s triumphant debut album The Overload the British indies return with this 8+ minute dancefloor filler infused with a flabbergasting bass riff, spiced with Smith‘s parlando vocals, schizo guitars and yes, cowbells.

Disco-punk thrill.

.
3. Arrive! by LOOKING GLASS WARS

This new Boston band hit bullseye right away with their debut single.
Arrive! is a bang-on belter spiced with towering vocals.

Score!

4. ‘Every Chance I Get (I Want You In The Flesh)’ by DAN AUERBACH

Black key voice/guitarist bewitches with his new moody solo single.

Bluesy stuff.

.

This Michigan-based collective mixes ska, pop and indie with head-spinning effects.
You can’t but go skagaga to their effervescent burst of music like here with a single
from their upcoming debut album, titled Treats that lands on July 25th.

Turn up the trombone.

6. ‘Bloodscreamtorture (Theme From Bathtime)’ by DEAN STACY

Bluesy, groovy and electrifying, driven by a magnetic guitar riff and ending with
a vocal climax. An absolute highlight from this Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter’s
new 7-track EP The Bathtime Tapes.

Stupendous.

.
7. ‘Drift Away’ MIRROR GLAZE

This German pithy pop-punk act just released their punchy debut album All Change Please. Drift Away is a standout track pushed by bass/drum energy, jangly guitars and
riot grrl vocals.

Bingo!

.
8. ‘Fourteen Days’ by STYLUSBOY

Melancholic Americana folk the English way. Fourteen Days is a pearl of a song. Gripping, heavy-hearted and forthwith captivating. I’ll feature on his new EP Back In The Day that lands on 28 July.

Splendid accomplishment.

.

9.’Foreign Land’ by TEENAGE FANCLUB

added to this rad 2023 playlist.

TRACK-BY-TRACK

1. ‘The Nether-edge’ by PJ HARVEY

Enigmatic as ever.

Standout track from her brand new LP I Inside the Old Year Dying.

.
2. ‘Poison The Well’ by SURPRISE BABY

The Los Angeles based project of musician and songwriter
Sarsten Noice and producer Claire Morison.

The track narrates facing the consequences of your own actions and the desire
to change the reality of a situation but ultimately having the resignation that you
can’t.

Poison The Well has a magnetic synth vibe that sticks
on the spot and actives your limbs. Strike!

.
3. ‘There She Blows!’ by NOEL GALLAGHER’S HIGH FLYING BIRDS

Former chief of Manchester’s heroes Oasis still knows how to write an instantly appealing song. There She Blows is grooving and amusing. From NG’s new longplayer Council Skies.

.
4. ‘Sicily’ by QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE

Josh Homme and his amigos just launched their new
wildly praised full length In Times New Roman….

Sicily is unquestionably and absolute highlight. Spooky stuff.

5. ‘Three Hours’ by JOHN PARISH & ALDOUS HARDING

A cover of a Nick Drake (1948-1974) song from his 1969 LP Five Leaves Left.

A mesmeric rendition by PJ Harvey’s longtime collaborator/producer and the sparkling voice of songstress Aldous Harding. It features a brand new tribute album named The Endless Coloured Ways – The Songs Of Nick Drake.

.
6. ‘Banana Ketchup’ by BAZE BLACKWOOD

The project of music producer, educator, and
performer, named Miles Blackwood Robinson.

No, idea how banana ketchup tastes, but its sonic flavour will seduce
you to get up and shake your booty to the hip-activating summer beat.

Tantalizing tune!

.
7. ‘Hard Shit’ by ASHA

Songwriter, producer and multi-instrumentalist
from Los Angeles whose music transcends genre.

Asha: “Hard Shit is about dating and how awful it is, especially due to the inventions of dating apps and how the culture has changed. There are just too many options for everyone now, so no one wants to stick around long enough to have something real. I think this song is super relatable and fun!

I love Asha‘ no-nonsense and direct approach of this topic
and the song’s avid EBM pop resonance. Top shit!

.
8. ‘Secrets’ by CHEW MAGNA

These Manchester’s cacophonous indie craftsmen score with their new high-energetic corker that resounds like a pop melody backed up by layers of guitar furor, eager bass play, bang-on drum hits and lively vocals. Tremendously catchy stroke!

.
9. ‘I’m A Wreck’ by ROOMMATES

These British gunslingers kick-start your adrenalin production from the first chord on with this peppery pop-punk cryout fed by schizo guitars and distressed vocals. A thrill, although the song is about the wake of a breakup, an anthem of self-loathing, regret, and ultimately, forgiveness. I said it a million times before, heartache can lead to explosive catharsis in music.

.
10. ‘High Exposure’ by HOLLOW GRAVES

This shoegazy dream pop titillation gets under your skin slowly but surely driven by its melodic brightness. And kudos to these Canadian indies to comment on the crushing amount of daily promo for artists/records.

“There isn’t necessarily anything wrong with doing some self promo, but sometimes there’s the temptation to lie and hide one’s true self to maintain their public persona. It’s disappointing to see, but the true pitfall of this kind of dishonesty is that it affects one’s own personal growth and self-discovery.”

mind-boggling album The Beggar.

.
3. ‘Final Girl Seminfinalist‘ by JOAN OF ARKANSAS

A mindfucker from Phoenix desert rockers’ new LP, titled Imperfectionists, landing

A Saturday Night Fever punk-disco knockout for crowded dancefloors.
Groove-tastic. From this Toronto’s swirling outfit’s new EP. Stream here.

5. ‘Food For The Moon’ by PRETTY

The 2nd single from an upcoming EP (‘Citrus Magic’, out 28 July) by this Toronto psychotic gang. Expect a mid-tempo banger stoked up by schizophrenic guitars zigzagging their way around a catching melody/chorus. Think King Gizzard and The Lizard Wizard.

6. ‘Vacations In A Taxi Club’‘ by IT’S KARMA IT’S COOL

Primo psych-pop track from these British indie rockers’ new album Thrift Store Troubadours. Read all about in their interview with Turn Up The Volume, right here.

7. ‘Endless Game’ by ROZMAZANI

This ElectroSpank duo from Poland launched their 3rd notable LP, named Hard Times earlier this year and is now followed by this new single Endless Game. A haunting, enigmatic and absolute top thrill.

.
8. ‘Blackbox Life Recorder 21f’ by APHEX TWIN.

The Irish electronic beep-bleep expert Richard David James aka Aphex Twin
drops a new 4-track EP next month. This is a smooth appetizer. An ambient
piece that’s actually quite melodic and infectious, the AT way that is.

9. ‘Echoes’ by OK PANDA

Following their splendid debut EP Perspectives, released last January this Brussels
guitar pop act returns with this feel-good tune with an electric-powered finale. An
ode to freedom, a call to break free from the monotony and explore new horizons.

.

A both regretful and melancholic ballad from the band’s
upcoming album, called Relentless. Out on September 1.
