THE DANDY WARHOLS Playing – ‘Be-In’ – Satyricon Club In PORTLAND – 2010

Memorable live moments

Watch THE DANDY WARHOLS  perform a mind-boggling psychedelic version of
‘BE-IN’ in the legendary Satyricon Club in Portland, Oregon (The Dandy’s city). It was
a very special event as the iconic club had to close down so the band who played
several times there when starting their career did a farewell show in 2010 (with
original drummer Eric Hedford).

Here we go…

Melbourne Trio CABLE TIES Storms Madly On Blazing Single ‘SANDCASTLES’…

27 January 2020

Melbourne’s steamy punk engine CABLE TIES will launch their second album ‘FAR ENOUGH’ on 27th March via Merge Records. The trio shared a video clip recently
for the storming lead single ‘SANDCASTLES‘.

It’s a speedy cannonball about “criticizing the idea that an effective activist community can
be created by shouting down and casting out anyone who doesn’t abide by the social norms or language of an exclusive community or group. The song is aimed at a figurative individual who doesn’t have any interest in making positive changes in society or participating in open and productive discussions about political and social issues.”

After a bouncy drum/bass intro ‘Sandcastles’ explodes when frontwoman Jenny McKechnie starts her unstoppable and blazing tirade. This angry adrenalin injected stunner grows in clamorous intensity and electrifying energy fueled by crazy guitars along its rousing and red-hot-blooded progression and will pump up your bloodstream’s flow. Insane stroke!

27 January 2020

Band: Magazine (Manchester / 1977–1981, 2009–2011)

Album: Real Life – their outstanding debut LP

Released: June 1978

Score: Haunting, paranoid and edgy just like real life with several high-quality songs, experimental arrangements and lots of synths. One of the first essential post-punk albums. Frontman Howard Devote looked a bit like an alien and his outlandish voice
and vision were crucial for this record. Musically the late great guitarist John McGeoch was his ideal partner.

Amazing Soul Voice NIA WYN Releases Title Track From Her Upcoming EP – Here’s ‘LOVE I CAN’T RUIN’…

Reveries for the laziest day of the week

25 January 2020

Artist: NIA WYN

Who: “Nia Wyn grew up in a small seaside town in North Wales. Despite breathtaking views, she found herself battling with demons relating to isolation, identity and mental health. In local junk shops she sought solace in old soul records, discovering the likes of Billie Holiday, Bob Dylan and Marvin Gaye to hip-hop artists such as Nas and Lauryn Hill. Nia took inspiration from an eclectic range of music, helping her craft her unique story-telling abilities into her songwriting.”

Track: LOVE I CAN’T RUIN – the title track from her upcoming EP, out 19 February.
The song is “about that first stage of dating someone, and just being a bit scared of screwing
it up by being too vulnerable, too early. Eventually, you peel back your layers and let them get
to know the real you rather than just the image you want people to see, but that can feel really risky.”

Score: Here’s a young, amazing new voice that draws your aural attention instantly.
To be honest, on first hearing I thought it was an unreleased track by the late great
Amy Winehouse. ‘Love I Can’t Ruin’ has that same sensitive, soulful and jazzy feel as
many of the songs of the unfortunate artist. Wyn‘s impressive and exceptional
vox also seems to be made to sing exquisite, affecting and romantic musings
that touch people’s hearts and souls. Her future looks pretty bright.

Tune in and enjoy the vocal brilliance…

Brighton Dream Pop Trio CIEL Shines With A Moony Reverie From Their Debut EP – Here’s ‘THE SHORE’…

New sonic impulses

25 January 2020

(Photo Jantina Talsma)

Band: CIEL

Who: A Brighton based trio comprising of Dutch musician Michelle Hindriks and the
friends she made upon relocation to Brighton. The three-piece have quickly earned
kudos for their exquisite live shows, having already supported the likes of Hatchie,
Sasami
and Penelope Isles.

Track: THE SHORE – lead single from their upcoming debut EP ‘Movement’ out in
the Spring. The song is “about a moment where you feel stuck in your life and are waiting
for it to ‘really’ begin; yet at the same time, you realise it’s just an illusion and your life has already begun, and you’re living it right now. Losing the connection with that essence can
feel extremely frustrating”.

Score: This is dream pop at its finest. Moony, tender and melancholically melodious.
The Shore‘ is a wake-up reflection about discovering that you actually live in the present. Hindriks‘ voice is enticing, starry-eyed and sensitive, matching the moody synths sonority
of this introspective song perfectly well and that elevating guitar sequence around the
2-minute mark shines brightly and gives this sonic meditation a lively, hopeful feel.

Sitting on the shore waiting for life to start
What am I waiting for? / When the earth is my greatest love /
Staring at the shore / in the meantime life is hard
