Daily electricity to load your sonic batteries…

Oh my, oh my. OFFWORLD, the collaborative project of Hard-Fi‘s frontman Richard
Archer and towering vox Krysten Cummings shared two impressive cuts, so far,
from their upcoming album, and here’s the stunning third piece. Stunning? Actually
an unquestionable contender for performance of the year. That good? Oh yeah, just
off-the-charts, on every level.
I FOUND OUT makes your hair in the back of your neck stand up. It’s an epic 7-minute magnum opus about the killing of Michael Brown, an 18-year old black teenager, in
2014 in St-Louis, Missouri. In the light of the recent murder of George Floyd you can’t but feel aversion, stupor, and incomprehension.
The song came with the following statement: “We originally conceived and wrote ‘I Found Out’ after the killing of Michael Brown in Ferguson and the subsequent protests that broke out across the country. The track features dialogue from emergency service radio heard during the confusion of the following days. I recall Krysten improvising the chorus and what you hear is her first, improvised take pouring out her anger and frustration. Krysten Cummings adds, These lyrics were written 5 years ago but sadly mirror what is happening today and has been happening since ‘Struggling To Breathe In St Louis’.”
The overwhelming Odyssey starts with an ominous groove, Ray Manzarek organ snippets, and haunting duet vocals. Slowly but surely ‘I Found Out’ grows in spine-chilling tension and rage-filled fervency moving towards a sky-high wall-of-sound finale with a crushing Jimi Hendrix-like guitar solo and a reflective end evoking a why oh why tristesse. Krysten Cummings‘s jaw-dropping performance causes goosebumps and leaves you behind, out
of breath. After only one spin you know you experienced something absolutely lasting special, musically as well as lyrically. BLACK LIVES MATTER.
