ELVIS COSTELLO Surprises With A Spoken Word Story ‘PHONOGRAPHIC MEMORY’

New sonic impulses…

30 August 2020

ELVIS COSTELLO releases new album called HEY CLOCKFACE at
the end of October. The legendary singer-songwriter already made
us happy with three cuts (hear them below).

And here’s a song that does not feature on the official tracklist
of the upcoming longplayer. It’s labeled as a digital B-side. A pretty
special one as PHONOGRAPHIC MEMORY is a spoken word
story with the voice of the late great actor Orson Welles.

Listen here…

Melancholic Symphony – THE FLAMING LIPS Drop Another New Track From Their Upcoming LP

New sonic impulses…

29 August 2020

The surreal fairy tale daydreamers THE FLAMING LIPS launch their new album American Head on 9/11. With the five tracks (watch/listen below) we already heard it sounds like The Lips will spoil us with one of their most affecting works ever. A sort of moody masterpiece.

And this sixth new song, titled MOTHER PLEASE DON’T BE SAD follows in the sonic footsteps of the other five tracks. A melodramatic and melancholic symphony.

“Mother please don’t be sad/ I didn’t mean to die tonight / But those robbers were so fast/
Their guns and their anger comes and I lost the fight.”

Watch/listen here…

The previous 5 tracks…

– FLOWERS OF NEPTUNE 6 –

Five Fervent Firecrackers – STAY ON TRACK IN THE WEEKEND…

29 August / 30 August 2020…

Five new firecrackers to boost your favorite 48 hours…

‘This Feeling Is Disgusting’ by MOURN (Barcelona, Spain)
A roaring razor-blade ripsnorter going fast and furious without looking back.
“It’s a happy song about fear of the future, being anxious about what’s going to happen,
not knowing if you’re going to be able to earn a living or not.”
says the trio. New album
Self Worth arrives on 30 October.

‘Vote That Fucker Out’ by WRECKLESS ERIC and AMY RIGBY (UK/US)
An anger-fueled uppercut, the whole wide world should scream along to. A firm middle-finger knockout. Let’s get together and shout at the top of our lungs until the elections in November. Exit Trump is the world-saving goal, ladies and gents! Let’s act! Let’s sing…

‘Jefferson Davis Highway’ by THE PINKERTON RAID (Durham, NC, US)
Confronting, gripping and soul-stirring song/video honoring the American
anti-racist protesters who came/come out in the streets to condemn the recent
killings and attacks of black people by US law enforcement. A moving humdinger.

‘Shame‘ by UNIFORM (NYC, US)
The NYC hardcore fanatics burn slowly but surely towards a passionate explosion. “It’s a portrait of someone riddled with regret in the process of drinking themselves to death,” says frontman Michael Berdan. It’s the title track of their new album, out 9/11. Details here.

‘Snake Oil’ by NAP EYES (Halifax, US)
Electrical guitar-driven indie belter. “The song is kind of a contradiction or riddle, because whatever this ‘snake oil’ literally represents, the singer is apparently brewing and stewing it
as some kind of sustenance.”
The track comes from the sessions of their excellent album Snapshot Of A Beginner released last March.

See/hear you next week, music junkies…

Classic Debut Longplayer ‘SIGNING OFF’ By UB40 Released 40 Years Ago

29 August 2020

Band: UB40
Active: Since 1978
Album: Signing Off

Released: 29 August 1980
40 years ago today
Score: #2 in the UK

AllMusic wrote: “Their rhythms may have been reggae-based, their music Jamaican-inspired, but UB40 had such an original take on the genre that all comparisons were moot… Campbell’s words were his sword, and the creamier and sweeter his delivery, the deeper they cut. Their music was just as revolutionary, their sound unlike anything else on either island, from deep dubs shot through with jazzy sax to the bright and breezy instrumental “12 Bar”. Their fire was dampened quickly, but on Signing Off it blazed high, still accessible to the pop market, but so edgy that even those who are sure there’s nothing about the group to admire will change their tune instantly.” Score: 4/5.

4-Track Pop Rarities For Your Lockdown Ears – Listen To ‘HOME SCHOOLING’ By Welshmen KEYS

29 Augustus 2020

Band: KEYS
Who: Five Welshmen with sharp ears for electrical
pop tunes, wearing cool black Bob Dylan shades
Album: HOME SCHOOLING

Sound: “A Collection of 4-Track Rarities’ is proof of the importance of the spaces left between the integral notes, the spaces that let the songs breathe. The songs range from joyous early 70s Midlands pop, bucolic chamber pop, sweeping Krautrock grooves, fractured Big Star/BadFinger songcraft to vamping 2 chord proto-punk freak-outs. Through it all we hear the hiss of the 4-track cassette recorder turning, the sound of the endless possibilities and magic of the pop
song spilling out in vivid colours. No second guessing or over thinking, only the joy of creating.”

Matthew Evans (vocals/guitar/songwriter) says “We recorded these tracks on Cassette four track machines during lockdown. Let’s not pretend we had access to an expensive studio, we didn’t. It was a time to connect with bedroom songwriting again. Something to help us get through this lockdown. Hopefully you can use it too.”

Keyline
: ‘Everybody knows the format of pop music, everybody knows what it meant
to do, so it’s harder to write that sort of music.
” – Jason Pierce (Spiritualized)

Key(s)words: Tune paradise / From The Beatles‘ early earworms to The Lemonheads
mixed emotions musings / From The Beach Boys harmonies to Teenage Fanclub’s relaxed jingle-jangle warmth / From yesterday’s melodiousness to today’s bedroom fantasies /
From 4-track hiss to your lockdown ears / Keys to your heart / Reverb for all seasons

Key(s) tracks: Phases / The Strain / Trick Of The Light / Home schooling

Fear The Wacky Weirdos Of LEG PUPPY – They Only Like ‘MEDS AND BEER’

TheyDaily fuel to load your sonic batteries…

29 August 2020

Never heard of South London’s LEG PUPPY? Here’s what they say about themselves:

“Originally formed amongst a backdrop of bingo callers, haunted rickety hotels, dancing
goats and clown worshipers. The electro-psych/multi-media outfit, offer a satirical attack
on the modern world. A complete DIY multi-media band, designing all sleeves, graphics, backdrops, videos and art installations”

Some compare them to the legendary THE KLF, the anti-music-business fanatics,
not only know for their raving dance-techno crackers but also infamous for burning
1 million pounds once upon a time. FACT!

Anyway, Leg Puppy shared – only via Spotify a reworked version of their classic 2018
blockbuster called MEDS AND BEER. Rumour goes the misfits received 1 million pounds from Spotify for that exclusivity. Rumour also goes that they not gonna burn the cash but put it in their pockets and fly to a tax haven. Yes, that’s what greedy capitalists do, folks!

WARNING: Don’t let them fool you with their hallucinating knockout tunes. That’s what they do. Making ass-kicking music that brainwashes your poor mind without leaving traces. Run! Run Run!

One more thing. You’ll hear, on repeat, on this ripper their fake motto: THERE’S NO NEED TO FEAR. Lie, big lie, ladies and gents! Read my lips: Do Not Trust LEG PUPPY. Do Fear These Psychos! I’m warning you one last time. Do not listen to Meds and Beer below on Spotify and do not watch the video of the original version. Capisce?

Do not listen

.
Do not watch

Ps: I must admit there’s one positive thing to say about these zombies.
They wear the coolest anti-coronavirus mouth masks I’ve seen so far. FACT!
