Artist: TOM JOSHUA
Who: A singer-songwriter from Teeside, North East England who hit the scene back in
2017 with heartfelt debut single Meteor Showers. Tom’s love of harmonies stems from
an early appreciation of Simon and Garfunkel, Fleetwood Mac and more recently Sigur Ros, melded together with potent lyricism inspired by favourites such as Nick Drake, Feist and Big Thief.
Pick: UNDERGROWTH – the song is rooted in the surroundings of Tom’s home
near Stockton-on-Tees and inspired by a surreal dream sequence conceived while
out walking the dog. The same-titled debut EP will be out next month.
Score: Joshua‘s powerful voice draws your aural attention from the very start.
A truly impassioned and wholehearted vocal tour de force while the sky-high
melody, going forth and back, up and down, could easily be on a Vampire Weekend
album. Undergrowth is a king-sized effort, a first-class composition and a captivating experience. Five stars songwriting. Just magnificent.
