New sonic impulses…
8 October 2020
American singer/songwriter KEVIN MORBY releases
his sixth album SUNDOWNER on 16th October.
Ahead of it, he gave us already three pieces off the album.
And here comes the title track.
“When I first moved back home to Kansas after having lived on both coasts
for over a decade, I found myself – for the first time – dreading the sun going
down. This was a foreign feeling for me” says Morby about the track.
From the first spin, I thought I heard a Leonard Cohen song. A previously
unreleased one. One with that characteristic bluesy Cohen feel. After a couple
of spins, I’m totally convinced that Cohen wrote this lovely little pearl in a cozy
bar somewhere in heaven and let it drop by an angel in Morby‘s postbox.
“I am a sundowner/ So live and leave/ I am a sundowner/
Don’t let the sun run from me.”
