Band: WEEZER
Active: 1992–1998, 2000–present

Album: VAN WEEZER – 15th LP
Note 1: The album is dedicated to the late Eddie Van Halen
Note 2: Recordings started in 2019 and a release was planned
for a 15 May 2020 release, but postponed for a year, until next
month.
Released: 7 May 2021 – only 4 1/2 months after
their previous excellent album OK Human.
NME: “After the classical treatments of ‘OK Human’ gelled so well with Rivers Cuomo’s songwriting, the bull-snorting hellchords and squealing solos of ‘Van Weezer’ clash so
hard with his style that the retro metal elements often just feel like slapped-on gimmickry.
While heavy ‘80s rock riffs might often suit Weezer songs, Weezer songs – rarely strutting
battle-cries of sex, sacrifice and boulder-eating testosterone – are generally too sensitive,
smart and surf-friendly to carry them.” Score: 3/5.
Turn Up The Volume: Heavy guitar rock – the album is a tribute to the late Eddie Van Halen – with a poppy resonance. Works now and then, like on the 3 sickly sticky singles.
Singles: Hero / The End Of The Game / Beginning Of The End
– HERO –
– THE END OF THE GAME –
– BEGINNING OF THE END –
