Record label: “Band of Horses’ sixth studio album and first record in more
than five years. Sonically, the album is a return to their earlier work and
the kind of raw ethos that lies at the heart of Band of Horses. Emotionally
intense, both on a personal and elemental level, on Things Are Great we find
band founder Ben Bridwell more autobiographical than he’s ever been on
record detailing the nebulous frustrations and quiet indignities of relationship
changes and what a person will do to make things right.”

DIY Magazine says: “Band of Horses’ first record in six years teeters between the anthemic
and milder scores that powered their initial appeal. Ben Bridwell’s gossamer vocals lead a revival of reverbed guitar sequences and revitalised songwriting… The South Carolina-based five-piece’s desert-hued harmonies take centre stage once more, country-veering melodies upscaled with a renewed emphasis on staple rousing build-ups and slow-burning yarns.

Turn Up The Volume: During the first spin of this new BOH work, I felt the same as with other of their albums. Like if they have one key song and start from there to write other similar sounding songs. But then again I found myself playing Things Are Great three times in a row (happened with older LPs too), enjoying their appealing force, as always inspired by the Eagles, C S N & Young, and The Beach Boys (for the harmonies). We all know, things are not great these days, but this record feels a bit like a sepia-colored comfort.
