Discover Belgian Funky Punky Collective LÉZARD Who Don’t Stop Making Sense

Up-and-coming

26 April 2024

Band: LEZARD
Who: Sharp-angled post-punk-disco outfit from Ghent, Belgium

Standing in a small club in front of a band you never heard of and get blown
away is always an aural thrill and puts a big smile on my music junkie face.

That magic feel hit me again last week when the Belgian collective named
LÉZARD played in my hometown of Ghent (Belgium) as part of the 4th edition
of indie showcase festival Badlands.

So what was it all about? Imagine Talking Heads reincarnated and only playing sweaty discotheques for people who love to move their feet, hips and butts when they hit town
at the midnight hours. That’s the idea of what Lézard caused with their addictive funky punky set, spiced with tantalizing tunes, boosting beats, burning down the house vibes and sparkling Freak Le Chic guitars here
and there.

Psycho killer

Lead vocalist Neil Claes rattles as manic as the young David Byrne did on repeat, soulful
co-singer Myrthe Marnef adds a sultry party-infused timbre, while the full band plays spot-on. No brakes, no breaks, no mistakes. They didn’t stop making sense. Bingo!

Part-yyyyyyyyy

So far they fabricated two songs. Two jump-up-and-down firecrackers, perfectly designed as a sonic introduction for what Lézard has to offer to your ears and all of your itchy limbs.

MICK JAGGER And LADY GAGA With Sublime Vocal Performance In NYC At Small Album Launch Gig In NYC

26 October 2023

Two weeks ago, eternal rock icons THE ROLLING STONES released their
first proper album in 23 years (their 24th British and 26th American one)
with the critically lauded HACKNEY DIAMONDS.

Mick Jagger is 80, Keef Richards turns 80 in December and Ron Wood is 76
and they look in absolutely great shape as they showed once again on
their album launch club gig in NYC last weekend.

On one of the singles – a classic gospel ballad – named SWEET SOUNDS OF HEAVEN,
Lady Gaga joined Jagger for some sky-high scraping vocals. Fantastic on record, but equally sublime live.

CHECK IN.

THE KILLERS Have Killer Numbers On Spotify And In The UK For 2003 Monster Hit ‘MR. BRIGHTSIDE’

15 October 2023

.

To celebrate its 15th birthday, the Swedish mega audio streamer Spotify shared
a list of the biggest artists and tracks since its launch in October 2008.

The winners in the UK are THE KILLERS with their debut single MR. BRIGHTSIDE (released September 29, 2003). Globally the blockbuster hit has more than 1.8 billion streams, so far. Wowzers!

‘Mr Brightside’ previously broke UK chart records in 2021 by spending 260 non-consecutive weeks in the Top 100 of the UK’s singles chart. As of October 10, that figure has risen to a whopping 382 weeks – nearly seven years!!

ALREADY DEAD – New Acoustic Single ‘LANDLORD’ Is A Bone-Chilling Cry Out

Loud and clear songs

6 October 2023

Band: ALREADY DEAD
Who: Hefty punk rock trio
from Boston, Massachusetts led
by singer-songwriter Dan Cummings

Cummings: “I guess you could say ‘Landlord’ is all about a feeling. The feeling of just getting
by in life, with the looming knowledge that you’re one bad month, or even week, from falling behind. I’ve certainly lived with this before. Bills are paid, life is stable, but you still know that if you take any type of hit – financial, personal, whatever – it could still fall like a deck of cards. But you keep pushing, and keep those lights on.”

TUTV: No wall-of-Already-Dead-dynamite electricity this time. Cummings picked up his acoustic guitar and wrote this bone-chilling cry out about living on the edge of drowning
or surviving.

Imagine British leftist/political activist and terrific veteran songsmith Billy Bragg
raising his voice or equally politically driven folk legend Woody Guthrie killing fascists
again with his wooden guitar. Landlord‘s profound emotions go from hope to despair
and back, and Cummings‘ anxious vocals send shivers down your spine.

All-out top performance.

SPEAKING OF WITCHES – British Noise Rockers Turn Up The Decibels On New Single ‘WAX’

18 September 2023

Band: SPEAKING OF WITCHES

Who: Formed in 2016 in Southampton as Hunters Gathering and later
reborn as a formidable power trio, Speaking of Witches has redefined
Alternative Rock by transforming blues-influenced rock into a relentless,
low-tuned stoner/alt-rock sound that can peel paint at ten paces.

New single: WAX
First piece of their upcoming debut album
Can You Stand On Your Head?’

TUTV: Wax is a merciless sledgehammer, a riff-maniacal hammer blow,
a clobbering brainbreaker. Think Queens Of The Stone Age turning up the
decibels even more than they already produce. These 3 male witches build
a titanic wall of blasting bombast you can headbang to until you’re unconscious

No rest for the wicked. Speaking of a deafening beast of a track.

BEST BAND IN THE WORLD – British Riotous Punk Turbo LAMBRINI GIRLS

13 September 2023

Brighton’s astonishing LAMBRINI GIRLS are riotous punk’s new sensation to
Turn Up The Volume‘s ears and eyes and to lots of critics with great taste for great
new music. And if you are on the same bill with Blondie and Iggy Pop, as it happened
early this month at the Punkfather’s Dog Day Afternoon event in London, you definitely have the right lust for life.

They’re the BEST BAND IN THE WORLD right now.

On record and on stage.

ON RECORD

The cast iron battle-axes just released their 6-track EP, titled YOU’RE WELCOME.

Expect 6 Apocalpyse-punk-now cannonballs, 6 in-your-male-macho-face
firecrackers, 6 full-speed- garage rock Lamborghinis. Holy burning shit!

TRASHING
CRASHING
SLASHING

HELLISH
DEMONIC
MANIACAL

BITCHY
BOILING
BANGING

AWESOME
BONKERS
BERSERK

CHAOTIC
MENTAL
GAY

YOU’RE WELCOME.
HERE.

ON STAGE

Here’s an idea of their live buzz

Last July the Lambrinis played Dour Festival in Belgium.
Their trash-and-slash hullabaloo led to non-stop moshpitting.

Actually, I should say OFF instead of ON stage, because that’s where loudmouth/guitarist Phoebe Lunny operated most of the time, uniting the crowd for a flabbergasting party, while awesome bassist Lilly Macieira let her 4-string do the talking, VERY LOUD. These Amazons’ kick-ass bravado is off the charts.Their spunky swagger and their intrepid presence is totally impressive.

And these Brighton motherrockers have a license
to kill all LGBTQ haters. Capisce?

Yesterday Was THE FLAMING LIPS DAY In SAN FRANCISCO

21 August 2023

Oklahoma‘s eccentric psych pop-rock orchestra THE FLAMING LIPS, led by conductor-voice-face Wayne Coyne, are one of my all-time fav bands, on record (16 LPs so far) and on stage. Their live shows are a visual and aural spectacle. The symphonic magicians blew my mind several times (some pics below).

On stage spectacle

Yesterday was The Flaming Lips Day in San Francisco. The band was
honored with a ceremony on Sunday afternoon, prior to their headlining
performance at the city’s Stern Grove Festival. I wouldn’t mind organizing a
Flaming Lips Day in Belgium, but I guess the chances for this to happen is zero.
You know, just the thought is already satisfying.
