THE BLACK ANGELS – Share New Ace Track/Video ‘I’D KILL FOR HER’ From New Album…

Texan psychedelic collective THE BLACK ANGELS will launch their fifth album DEATH SONG on 21 April via their new label Partisan Records. In a statement on the label’s website the band gives more info on the new record: “Written and recorded in large part during the recent election cycle, the music on Death Song serves as part protest, part emotional catharsis in a climate dominated by division, anxiety and unease.” After sharing first roller coaster single Currency a few weeks ago, here’s a second track. I’D KILL FOR HER is a haunting song about love leading to violence, pushed by a hypnotizing, recurring riff
and injected with a sticky chorus. Here’s the accompanying, remarkable video clip…

BLONDIE – New Feel Good Track ‘LONG TIME’ Confirms Their Relevant Comeback…

Icon Debbie Harry and BLONDIE are back! The veteran pop punks will release brand new – their eleventh – album POLLINATOR on 5 May featuring a long and impressive guest list with Dev Hynes, Johnny Marr, Laurie Anderson, Charli XCX, Sia, Joan Jett, TV on the Radio’s Dave Sitek and The Strokes’ Nick Valensi. The band already shared two elevating dance crackers, Fun and Monster, from the new LP, proving their comeback is absolutely relevant. And, now, after hearing third new track LONG TIME I even have to admit that their return will be a blessing. Long Time is a feel good rainbow, catchy as hell, brilliantly arranged and richly composed. Blondie will soundtrack many parties this summer… again. Pop gold!

BENJAMIN BOOKER – New Soulful & Significant Pearl From His Second Album ‘WITNESS’…

Young New Orleans based singer-songwriter & guitarist BENJAMIN BOOKER impressed
me and many critics with his first self-titled album back in 2014. A magnificent mix of
raw blues, affecting soul and garage rock fueled songs with a sharp edge caused by his exceptionally hoarse and ardent voice and the squeaky guitar noise he produces. He will release his second longplayer, titled WITNESS on 2 June via Ato Records. Booker just shared the first single, the title track of the record. It’s a gospel inspired pearl featuring soul legend MAVIS STAPLES. The mood is warm, heartfelt and emotive yet the song’s story deals with the artist’s own experience of racism in America and his country’s foreign policy. In an extensive message on his website he explains in depth what inspired him to write this particular track. You can read it here.

Here’s the audio clip for this sensitive diamond…

FIRST AID KIT – New Hard Kicking Single In Honor Of International Women’s Day.

Swedish folk rockers FIRST AID KIT released their new single YOU ARE THE PROBLEM HERE today – 8 March – in honor of International Women’s Day. A song in which the
duo attack and condemn men who commit rape and sexual assault. A hard kicking, bold and justified outburst, full of anger. The band shared this statement explaining the track:

“Today is the International Women’s Day and the theme of the year is #BeBoldForChange.
‘You Are the Problem Here’ isn’t a typical First Aid Kit-song. It’s angry and direct. It’s a song written out of despair. After reading about yet another rape case where the perpetrator was handed a sentence which did not at all reflect the severity of his crime we felt upset and vengeful. We were, and are, sick of living in a society where the victims of rape are often
blamed for the horrible thing that has been done to them. Our message is clear and should
not be controversial in the least: if you rape, you are the problem. Alcohol is not the problem.
So called ‘youth culture’ is not the problem. You are. And you always have a choice.”

The Belgian Bonnie & Clyde of the international dance scene – Danny Mommens and
Els Pynoo – alias VIVE LA FÊTE entertain us and the greatest part of this planet now
for nearly twenty years. Their own designed Saturday Night Fever electricity was/is unique as they never cared about trends, etiquette, ‘good taste’ or flawless French grammar (their choice of language to sing) and yet, despite or just because of their weirdly cool ‘je m’en fous’ attitude, combined of course with a series of albums filled with punchy, inflammable and sexy dance crackers they pushed thousands and thousands of electro pop addicts to ecstatic rapture over the years, on record and on stage.

After their 2013 album the pair is now back with a quite surprising new English sung single YOU CAN SLEEP IN MY BED. After a bouncy piano intro you’re limbs get vitalized instantly with a catchy disco drive spiced with an irresistible funky touch, Els Pynoo’s unavoidable, sensual voice and some orchestra-ted arrangements in the back. New single, new style, new kitsch, new thrill, new vibe! Press the button and start la fête

(photo by Turn Up The Volume!)

After last year’s vintage grooves filled album DISTORTLAND the Portland chill out psych rockers THE DANDY WARHOLS return with smashing new track THICK GIRLS KNOCK ME OUT (RICHARD STARKEY). Wham holy bam! It’s a smoking, highly amplified banger from start to finish, sounding like recorded live in one take somewhere in an abandoned studio with authentic equipment from the sixties resulting in a stupendous and glorious garage rocker. I still haven’t figure out what Ringo Starr is doing in there as I’m too busy to bang my head while playing this nasty cracker on repeat…

‘Where’s The Revolution’ by DEPECHE MODE

depechemode

British electro pop stars DEPECHE MODE will release SPIRIT, their new, fourteenth,
album on 17 March. It marks the band’s first collaboration with producer James Ford of Simian Mobile Disco (who worked also with Foals, Florence & The Machine, Arctic Monkeys) and serves as the follow up to the band’s blockbuster 2013 LP Delta Machine which debuted at #1 in 12 countries. More details about the new record here. Frontman Dave Gahan stated: “we’ve made an album that I believe is truly powerful, both in its sound and its message.” First single WHERE’S THE REVOLUTION refers to the troubled times we live in and regrets the lack of action by the people against the evil powers in charge. I guess their prayers are already, partly, answered by now with the massive Anti-Trump protests the past few weeks. Here’s the audio clip…
