‘SUCK THIS TANGERINE’ – New Album By Argentinian Punky Psych Pop Duo LAS KELLIES Out Now…

24 March 2020

A band’s press statement says: Thrashing it out on the dancefloor, ‘Suck This Tangerine’ deals with the difficulties of a society in never ending crisis (‘Funny Money’) to the highs and lows in relationships (‘He’s Who’, ‘Let You Go’) and there’s a guest appearance from ex-Kellie Julia Worley on ‘Close Talker’. Recorded at home in Buenos Aires, the chemistry of the duo’s formative years remains as does their febrile new wave post-punk sound soaked in fiery dance beats and dub-pop.

After their splendid  2016 album Friends And Lovers the dazzling Argentinian punky
pop duo LAS KELLIES return with their sixth longplayer. An overall dynamizing record
that combines trippy, infectious pop tunes with electrifying early 80s instrumentation. Throughout the rousing album the influence of experimental post-punk outfit Public Image Ltd‘s second album Metal Box is obvious. Especially Jah Wobble‘s pumping bass and Keith Levene’s stunning metallic guitar play. And it works brilliantly. You will also
hear echoes of Gang Of Four‘s staccato funk. Welcome back Las Kellies!

Psych Popsters LAS KELLIES Drop New Groovy Track From Upcoming LP – Here’s ‘CLOSE TALKER’…

Daily fuel to load your sonic batteries…

26 February 2020

Argentinian psych pop duo LAS KELLIES release their fourth album, titled ‘SUCK THIS TANGERINE‘ next month. We already heard two pieces. Last December they dropped
lead-single ‘Funny Money‘. Although it’s a song about our society being in a never-ending crisis, it swings and shakes like a solid gold dance floor killer. And last month they revealed a second cut.  ‘Closer’ is a funky, bass-driven pop humdinger spiced with an avalanche of contagious guitar lines and the duo’s seductive and sensual vocals.

Here’s track number three. ‘CLOSE TALKER‘ is also a frisky cracker with a funky touch, incandescent guitars, bouncy bass parts, infectious ohoo ahaa aha harmonies and a
sticky chorus. Another groove stroke predicting a highly sprightly longplayer.

LAS KELLIES – Delicisio Garage Pop Grooves In Rainy Belgium…

liveblglo

LAS KELLIES – Kinky Star, Ghent, Belgium – 23 November 2016

LAS KELLIES was formed back in 2005 when three Argentinian girls started to play together just like that – out of the blue – with borrowed instruments, in a small venue somewhere in Buenos Aires, just for the fun of it. Yesterday and five praised albums later, the thrilling trio played my hometown Ghent (Belgium) for the second time as part of an extensive European tour to share brand new sixth longplayer FRIENDS & LOVERS. A mighty shaking collection of sunlit psych pop crackers. A record to lighten up your mood 365 days a year. Something we need in our bloody rainy Belgium! And the band was definitely aware of it too. Yesterday they just played every track of the fresh released LP! Oh, yeah, we loved it! You simply can’t resist their electrifying party mix of stirring beats, groovy bass splendor and blissful harmonies, performed with a cool and confident garage swagger. Spirited, addictive and sensual. And, yes, they look so much better than Lionel Messi! Maravilloso! Earlier released single SUMMER BREEZE will give you a perfect idea of how I felt yesterday and still feel today…

Okay, I guess we’re all ready now to party.

One more thing. For the older music junkies among us. Las Kellies also covered that tremendous track by British post punk legends DELTA 5. Remember this one?

Gracias, Argentina…
