Indie Brothers THE CRIBS Share Another Piece ‘I DON’T KNOW WHO I AM’ From Their Upcoming Album

New sonic impulses…

22 September 2020

Last month British indie THE CRIBS announced their eight album,
entitled NIGHT NETWORK, out 13 November.

We already heard the lead-single Running Into You (listen below)
and here’s new piece number two. I DON’T KNOW WHO I AM.

“Lyrically, the song addresses the disconnect that Ryan and myself have always
had with our biological paternal lineage – and how that may have shaped our
views on masculinity, gender roles, and the men we ultimately grew up to be”

says bassist and vocalist Gary Jarman.

Former Sonic Youth’s guitarist Lee Ranaldo joined the family in
the studio for this track. They already worked together back in 2007.

For some reasons I hear pet sounds on I Don’t Know Who I Am.
Yes, Beach Boys echoes with a multi-layered resonance.

Fuzz & Buzz Electricity With Psych-O-Pathic Freaks SINGAPORE SLING…

This Friday Finnish psych-freak-artist Henrik Björnsson unleashes
GOOD SICK FUN, his eleventh album, with his SINGAPORE SLING
mates. Pre-order facilities here.

Label Fuzz Club about the new LP: “‘Good Sick Fun’ is the latest morbid and
characteristically-depraved addition to a back-catalogue spanning nearly
two decades from the cult Icelandic band.”

To get you in the right paranoid coronavirus mood here’s the
lead single SICKIN’ STREET that came out a few weeks ago.

‘It was initially called ‘Tremolo Madness’, for obvious reasons. The beat is inspired
by a big band intro and the tremolo drives the song. Tanja of the group Russian Girls
sings on it.”
says Björnsson.

It’s a psych-o-pathetic mindfucker. After this nasty missile leaves the gates it’s full steam ahead until the mental finale. In between, fuzz and buzz electricity makes your hair stand up like if you just underwent an electric-chair treatment. Imagine My Bloody Valentine and The Jesus and The Mary Chain having a roaring reverb contest. They’ll blow you out of your straitjacket.

Experience what sick fun is all about.
Right here, right now…

Addictive Psych Karma Jingle – Discover ‘IN A MILLION YEARS’ By MISTY COAST

Daily fuel to load your sonic batteries…

21 September 2020

(Credit: Steven Duke)

Band: MISTY COAST

Who: Chamber psych-pop duo – Linn Frøkedal and Richard Myklebust – from Norway
that conjures mental images of celestial bodies, kaleidoscopic bliss and mountain streams flowing into fjords. They already have two albums under their belt. Their 2017 Self-titled debut and last year’s Melodaze.

Pick: IN A MILLION YEARS. First single from new album ‘When I Fall From The Sky’.
“Tthe song represents a recurring theme on the album, and it lingers in thoughts about
whether we should choose to ignore the reality outside of what we experience as our world,
or if we should dare to seek a larger, perhaps unpleasant truth”
says Frøkedal.

Score: ‘In A Million Years‘ swirls from the get-go. It’s a shoegazy power-pop stroke with
a repetitive karma-like chorus infiltrating your ears’ stereo instantly. Imagine former Cocteau Twins‘ heavenly vocalist Elizabeth Fraser backed by The Jesus And Mary Chain‘s
fuzzy feedback wall. An infectious and rollin’ mixed emotions jingle that’ll put a smile on your face during these bizarre corona times when reality became fiction and vice-versa. For me, the cure is, as always, music that uplifts my worried state of mind.

Like this earworm…

KATE BUSH Cover – ‘Running Up That Hill’ By AERIAL EAST

21 September 2020

New-York based singer-songwriter AERIAL EAST wants to tell stories
we don’t hear often. “I want to humanise different characters.”

She recently signed to Partisan Records. Her first track is a cover of
Kate Bush masterstroke RUNNING UP THAT HILL, which came out
35 years ago, on 5 August 2020.

Partisan Records: “With equal parts reverie and intention, her version of the classic track showcases the unvarnished intimacy East is able to create between herself and the listener.”

East: “I’ve been a huge Kate Bush fan since my late teens/early twenties when her ‘Wuthering Heights’ videos sent me down a never-ending Kate Bush rabbit hole. That song has been a karaoke go-to for me for years and ‘Hounds of Love’ is one of my favorite records ever. I put
it on when I am sad, and it does a lot of joyful heavy lifting for me.”

East‘s interpretation is a stripped to the bone one with intimate piano touches, almost unrecognizable, but gracious and soulful. Notable version, ghostly voice.

Rolling Stone: “After blowing minds as the house band at L.A.’s Whisky-a-Go-Go, where
they got fired for playing the Oedipal drama “The End,” the Doors were ready to unleash
their organ-driven rock on the world. “On each song we had tried every possible arrangement,” drummer John Densmore said, “so we felt the whole album was tight.” The Blakean pop art on their debut was beyond Top 40 attention spans. But they hit pay dirt by editing down one of their jams: “Light My Fire,” written by guitarist Robbie Krieger when Jim Morrison told everybody in the band to write a song with universal imagery.”

Jim Morrison: “I see myself as an intelligent, sensitive human, with the soul of a clown which forces me to blow it at the most important moments.”
