THE DREAM SYNDICATE Released Their Debut LP ‘THE DAYS OF WINE AND ROSES’ 40 Years Ago

Back in time

27 October 2022

Band: THE DREAM SYNDICATE
Who: Psychedelic post-punk rockers from Los Angeles fronted by Steve Wynn
Active: 1981–1989, 2012–present / 8 studio LPs with this year’s Ultra Violet Battle Hymns And True Confessions as the most recent one(stream below)

Anniversary LP: THE DAYS OF WINE AND ROSES
Released: 28 October 1982

Uncut Magazine said: “The Dream Syndicate led the way into the ’80s’ “post post-punk universe”, Steve Shelley declares in a booklet of peers’ testimonials. The rehearsals show they had more common ground with the East Coast experiments of Sonic Youth (barely recorded in 1982) than was obvious back then. But the alchemising of the ’60s’ most exciting moments into a lucid ’80s classic is The Dream Syndicate’s singular achievement.” Score: 4/5.

Hungarian Songstress VERA JONAS Impresses In Sound And Vision With Pensive Pearl ‘KESERGÉS’

Artist: VERA JONAS EXPERIMENT
Who: Award-winning artist from Hungary who sways you with
her tender music or makes you dance with her tiger-wild songs.

New single/video: KESERGÉS.

A highlight from her recently released new album HOLD.

Vera Jones: “For me, Kesergés is about a kind of cycle. Everything comes full circle, the
wheat ripens, the heart heals after it’s been hurt. The intro to the music is not coincidentally
a ‘uroboros’, a symbol of a snake biting its own tail. The fragmented but circular syllables also symbolize that everything we do will be reflected in our relationships, our living environment, but also in nature. This film is an impression of our brutal summer of 2022, where we had a very hot summer, so we tried to take many showers, while the Great Plain was severely damaged by drought. When I first saw this footage, I thought it was taken on another
continent, or at least in Southern Europe. This is happening no
w”

TUTV: Intruiging song. Intriguing voice. Intriguing artist.

Kesergés is a meditative reverie about the unexceptional hot summer we just experienced, confirming once more that our climate is messed up in an alarming way. Vera Jones creates an atmosphere of urgent reflection embedded in a mesmeric melody.

This pensive pearl is sung in her native Hungarian language. To be honest, I had no clue how Hungarian actually sounded until now, and its, yes, exotic resonance surprised me.

Wake-Up Call – ACE OF WANDS With Their New Capricious Power Pop Single ‘DESIRING YOU’

Works faster than caffeine

26 October 2022

Band: ACE OF WANDS
Who: Dream pop/rock trio from Ontario, CA

New single: DESIRING YOU

Lee Rose (AOW): “The song was inspired by a toxic relationship and the addictive and sometimes destructive nature of desiring what is not good for me. I was trying to put music
to the feeling of being completely un-seen by the person I most desired being with. The song explores the tension, the anger and my ultimate refusal to be strung along.”

TUTV: Throughout the edged power pop stream of this capricious tune, you feel
both the yearning libido and fear the protagonist experienced while being in a
hazardous relationship. I’m not really sure why, but almost from the song’s start
the 1988 movie The Unbearable Lightness of Being where desire is a tricky affair
too, popped up in my mind.

Desiring You creeps under your skin with its agitated vocals, its flustered sonority,
and its turbulent rock dynamism. You’ll desire to hear this on repeat for a while.

Here we go.
