In celebration of 60 years of BOB DYLAN recording for Columbia Records,
the legendary video for Subterranean Homesick Blues has been reimagined
by a wide range of musicians, film makers, graphic designers and street artists.
Roll the tape…
That was cool, but I rather watch the original any day of the week…
Drop-dead gorgeous Aussie punkette AMY TAYLOR and her SNIFFERS
have two blistering punk rock albums out, so far. Their self-titled boiling
debut LP (2019) and the red-hot follow-upComfort To Me (2021).
A week ago the Aussie fury and her desperadoes caught
fire in front of the cameras of The Late Night Show with
a volcanic version ofHertz, one of the many highlights on
the new longplayer. And of course, all eyes are on Amyl.
Who: A singer/songwriter from the Niagara Region playing for
over 20 years now. His music crosses many genres and includes
acoustic, folk, pop, rock, country and adult contemporary.
Smelle: “Every day we plan to get things done and there is always a list
of things we put off ‘til tomorrow. I penned this tune 20 plus years ago
and when I was picking songs for my new album In The Homestretch,
I dived into my back catalogue and revamped this tune.
Now having my own studio, I was able to record all the parts myself and
the bass line totally drives this song. There is a definite laid-back vibe to this
one and it seems to be the track that resonates with a lot of my listeners.”
TUTV: This is melancholia at its moody best. A gentle and tender ballad
that starts playing around in your head after only one spin. Don’t wait ’til
tomorrow, listen to this folky reflection now.
Everyone has vice or two like you
But we all know what we should do
Instead we stay the same not change
Is there really someone else to blame
I could get a move on or improve on myself
But there’s no way
I waking up to find me say
That today is not the day
Last week after playing a show at the music venue Casino de Paris the Mael
brothers, better known as spicy pop legends SPARKS, played a short version
of their big 1974 hitThis Town Ain’t Big Enough For The Both Of Us at/on
a public piano at the historic Gare du Nord station in Paris.
Earlier this month acclaimed singer-songwriter Father John Misty (real name: Joshua Michael Tillman) from Rockville, Maryland dropped his 5th LP called Chloë And The Next 20th Century, praised by the press.
And here’s the video clip for highlight and tearjerker Kiss Me (I Loved You). Let’s dive into the night and
head towards a cozy bar.
London’s post-Gothic-punk minds BLACK DOLDRUMS with
key members Sophie Landers and Kevin Gibbard launched their
debut album release DEAD AWAKE a couple of weekes ago
(stream/buy below).
Turn Up The Volume said: The duo combines the haunting drive of the early Joy Division days the swirling guitar psych-o-billy of Danish duo The Raveonettes
with the lights out, and . a couple of sonic tranquilizers to the mix ) that put your
confused mind to rest. Black Doldrums love the midnight hours and so should you.
One of the full-length’s highlights is Dreamcatcher. An impeccable post-punk trip with glimmering guitars trippin’ around an addictive melody and shadowy voices floating all over it.
Last month Italian popsters THE BANKROBBER launched
the second single, titled WHITE SKIN from their upcoming
second longplayer.
Turn Up The Volume wrote: “The titillating electro- intro echoes early Depeche Mode before they became the darkwave Goth-esque rockers we all know. But in an eye-blink White Skin turns into a swirling synth-pop stomper to fill dancefloors with. It’s an instantly infectious nightclub earworm with an ecstatic chorus. This adrenaline-infused and hip-swinging doozy should top the dance charts around the globe.”
Here’s the totally cool retro discotheque clip, glitter ball included, feat. a drop-dead
gorgeous, white-legged lady (can I have her telephone number, please?)
A spectacular twist and turn trip with Ellery‘s story-telling vocals and Skye‘s
architectural skills with electronics. Sounds like a synth symphony by
the Mael brothers duo Sparks.
Georgia Ellery: “‘Concrete Over Water’ was written on a Summer’s night
in 2019 in a flat in Farringdon which was above a pub, and above a train line.”
About the video: “The clip is co-directed by the band and Eddie Whelan. The place hummed when the trains went under. The video was born out of the celestial themes in the song. Eddie and I created the characters (Moongirl, Voyager, Magma Boy, etc.) to explore the feelings of wonder, inspiration and the search for answers, to reflect what the song represents to me.”
